I was an OTR trucker for 6 years, then due to some family health issues, I had to cut ties so I can spend time with family. I was unsure what to do for work, and I ended up finding a small mom and pop brokerage. I have been working with them as an agent for 2.5 months now, and have yet to make a customer. I have been trying to find owner ops to partner with, and take over their back end as their personal broker. Only problem is, I don't know where to find these owner ops. I was a company driver for 6 years, and wasn't talking with many O/Os on the road either. I'm looking for advice on how I can go about finding O/O who would be interested in partnering with me as their broker. I've been making 100s of cold calls every day, and have yet to make a single sale, hence why I am looking to change my overall method of getting freight. Partnering with a O/O and taking over as their freight manager per say

Does this small mom & pop have other agents, that have customers? If the brokerage owners have their own customers, and your expected to get customers, with the brokerage and you as an agent getting a piece of the pie, that additional ‘layer’, meaning you, puts the fee’s above a competitive rate.

There are about 5 other agents, all of whom have customers and have an established book of business. Problem is, they don't like to talk and give any advice. I am on my own for the most part.

Seems to be the new trend, @PPDCT has a weekend course that he puts on. Wink wink
Siinman, PPDCT and Midwesterner_22 Thank this. -
Seeing your fellow brokers don't want to "share", maybe hitting the bricks to garner some contracts for consistent freight could be your own option.Siinman Thanks this. -
Long FLD Thanks this.
