TruckerPath as a truck GPS, is it worth it?

The email server will ignore anything after the plus sign and send the message to the normal inbox. You can see it happen. Using your phone send an email to yourself but change the addressee to your normal email address and just add +TP1, or anything else starting with a + sign. In my example above, if my email address was bigtrucker@gmail.com I would send an email to bigtrucker+TP1@gmail.com. The email I just sent would show up in the bigtrucker@gmail.com inbox.

Save your money, free is a little bit of a pain, but it will give you all the info you need.
Agree that dedicated Rand or Garmin is best. Get one with built in DashCam.
Google Maps runs on my tablet for real time reports.

And its great to read the reviews and advice that truckers post.

Trucker Path will see bigtrucker@gmail.com, bigtrucker+TP1@gmail.com, bigtrucker+TP3@gmail.com as 3 different email addresses. TP1 is just an example you can just change what comes after the plus sign each time you want to start a new free trial. Each email address gets a free trial. If it's too much trouble, just pay the 9.95/mo for the silver plan or whatever is the cheapest paid plan.

    Some potential problems here....with TP:
    • You have to download whatever map(s) you may need -- BEFORE you lose your cellular signal
    • The map downloads will use up considerable amounts of data on your cell plan (unless of course you have an "unlimited" plan); these downloads probably aren't "Speedy Gonzalez" fast, either
    • The downloaded map(s) will track your location, but will not offer traffic updates, or bad weather updates
    • The downloaded map(s) will not alert you to upcoming problems with bridge weights -- or potential vertical clearance issues -- especially if you find you need to change your earlier-planned route
    • You're looking/staring into a cell phone screen -- as I recall, your employer &/or law enforcement will not like that (or you, either)
Meanwhile.....satellite-driven systems are designed from the start....with these problems on mind....

    :dontknow:

Which one you think is better, Rand McNally or Garmin?

When I bought my Garmin (a "Dezlcam")....it gave live traffic updates/problems for free -- whereas the RM would not.

Also -- the Garmin usually did a REALLY GOOD job of coaching/guiding you (with female voice commands) into the correct lane(s) for an upcoming turn, or an upcoming needed exit. Thus -- it made avoiding the related mistakes A LOT easier.

This made tackling tough traffic in urban areas easier -- & inspired confidence when dealing with new/unfamiliar routes.

Has RM upped their game, to meet this challenge? I don't know.

Suggestion: shop carefully via the internet. Read reviews from other experienced truckers -- not journalists who've never been in a truck.

I use it, overall pretty happy with it and one thing I like about the app is they are constantly improving it and adding more features to it. It becomes more user-friendly all the time, also just added hotels that supposedly have truck parking along your route, which is nice. Although we need other drivers to start leaving reviews so we know which ones actually have truck parking.

    I would give it a solid B.
