Truckers beware if you are driving through Indiana

Yeh but where is the part that explains what constitutes "Emergency Equipment " and is there one? otherwise its just the officers opinion right ?

 

I have said many times before that law enforcement does not need to drum up work--there is always plenty right in front of them to keep them from looking for people to bother..and I still feel this way in almost any situation............
But alas I have to say--Indiana is a different beast lately--Ive been joking for a while they ARE the new Buckeye--(and any of yall that have been out here a long while know jus what I mean about the buckeye of the 80-90s)
Now in some respects Indiana has always been a little over vigilant--IMHO--and even AFTER losing a few state cops while doing roadsides--they STILL insist on doing them in unsafe areas....
Understand I am in NO way saying I am AGAINST--unsafe etc trucks gettin stopped and busted...I am ALL FOR IT....
But i have noticed an extremely disturbing trend among the Indiana state patrol over the last few years--and that is IMHO--a real lack of professionalism--in the way they handle themselves--along with an overall very poor attitude
While I have NOT been personally(directly)involved in any of this I have witnessed it...from literally screaming at--berating(with very bad language)a driver turning into a warehouse off a very small street--and his only crime was rolling his rear tires gently over the curb---to a driver being DOT at the scale on 70--who the officer was standing over HER-pointing in her face and screaming so loudly I could hear him as I rolled thru the BYPASS lane..........
So while I am NOT one of the drivers that typically complain about LAW ENFORCEMENT--and have had many many more GOOD experinces that the one or two bad over the years....
IMHO there IS a problem in the Hoosier--that I have personally been unhappy with for awhile now....

Yes, the regulations define what is 'emergency' equipment, as well as what is 'required' equipment.

Required equipment AKA "Parts and accessories necessary for safe operation".

But still , all i see when i click on that link under "emergency equipment " is one spare fuse for parts and accessories --to me that means "A spare fuse for everything". The other things listed are like safety triangles. I see no break down for exactly what emergency equipment.

Need one spare fuse of each value that is required by any required equipment.

I run US30 a lot. Indiana is a "probable cause" state... in other words, 1 mph over the stated speed limit is enough for any LEO to pull you over and start a level I. They don't have any tolerance for over the limit, and for all you newer types, this isn't anything new. FMCSAs own statistics show that Indiana is historically responsible for as much as 65% of the violations reported to CSA... it's about the revenue, and you are nothing more than a rolling ATM with no limit on withdrawals.

Oh yeah... I run US30 at the speed limit. EVERY other truck out there is going faster than me. Plan on getting a ticket. And watch for those areas where trucks are restricted to the right lane. They'll ticket ya for that one too!

 

It might be partially about the revenue, but simply knowing that you've got a good chance of being inspected in Indiana will make you consider having your truck right and your logs tight before you go there. And that's what it's all about.

IP, you can't run fast enough to get a ticket in that thing

 

Windsmith... I know you'd like it to be about safety, but it isn't. They leased the Indiana Turnpike to a foreign corporation for the money... spent within a couple of years. They have ultra-low state taxes in Indiana... the money to make that hillbilly state work has to come from somewhere. It's about the revenue.

 

While I was an Ohio State Trooper during the 70's we never had quotas. We could write as many tickets as we wanted.

I usually worked nights and spent most of my time after DUI. Then I was placed on the DUI tack squad.

One thing I can say for sure that there were some guys who had a personal ajenda for big trucks. They would salivate at the chance to pull over a truck.

I was trained by an old school type who felt truckers were just doing their job and I developed the same attitude.

If you drove I71 south of columbus you knew me. Truckers called me the shadow on cb and was always relieved when I got them for speeding. I would write it for lowest speed so they would only have $25 fine and no points.

We always knew of other departments who were difficult. I always thought Indiana was tough..Pennsylvania was crooked and West Virginia was the toughest bunch of people I ever met. Never mess with a West Virginia State Trooper. They're animals..lol

I do know Ohio liked people running the turnpike.. money...

 

It is this thinking that is ignorant... things break.. lights go out in route... The penalties for things that are ignored or overlooked I completely agree with but when you take a driver that does things right and had a clearance light go out and he gets stopped and dot'ed and gets 24 points on your record for something that has absolutely nothing to do with safety... CSA 2010 brought this hostility into the industry.. fix it tickets are just as bad as a ticket. According to this line of thinking I should replace every light, o ring and air bag every morning...

This is not about safety it is about revenue..
