I think countries with higher fuel are ones who got there over time
Had we raised fuel $.10 per year since the 70’s we would be at what? $6 per gallon or more?
We would have adjusted our lifestyle along the way and made 1 trip per week to the store or built a smaller home. Not have a boat. Motorcycles and 3 extra cars or whatever
It’s no big deal for us to run to town if you live out in the country a few times per day yet alone per week but if fuel had slowly gone up we would be living accordingly
But going up $0.50 in a day and for several days in a week or month? That’s a problem
