Truckers vs Steering Wheel Holders?

Murph, I'm not trying to bust your bubble, but when you say one guy is a trucker, and the other guy is a steering wheel holder, that's name calling. Like calling people in cars "4-wheelers." Profiling is not an intelligent way to go about life. I'm an American citizen, working man, truck driver lately, and I don't like being profiled beyond that. I'm not alone in this. We're all individuals, not a group of something negative. Anyway, there's a lot of work in transportation, driver, dispatch, sales, expediter, so the money is there, I think $200 Billion/annual industry income. Best to you.

 

steering wheel holder= watermelon shaped otr drivers wearing crocs and elastic shorts or sweats, pulling a dry van. so lazy, they have pizza delivered to their truck at the ts, instead of walking half a mile, because settin the cruise and opening the doors once a day is tough stuff. dont, or cant, secure a load. wont pull a flatbed because its too much work. wont go to canada because they heard spooky stories about it. wont go to nyc because in the back of their mind, they know they cant drive. pee in a jug, because a bathroom, or even a tree, is too far. refuse to handle freight, even when they get paid well for it. dont drive on anything but interstates, and only stop at big chain truckstops, because they cant park.

 

I drove with a bonafide steer wheel holder once. He couldn't shift, back, didn't understand HOS, and didn't even know you have to check tire air pressure or what it should be. Had trouble doing anything around the truck because was afraid of getting dirt under his fingernails. Never again.

 

I think Pattyj summed it up.... I take a lot of personal pride and do my my best... I am always learning and improving.. and when something challenging comes up.. I tackle it the best I can... I am a safe driver.. and I do my PTIs .. I stop and check mh load within the first 50 miles...

I am on a dedicated flatbed account and deliver to menards... now, the menards DC where i pick up my loaded flatbed has a tarp machine thing... some drivers, still fold and roll up the tarps.... I do... some dont... they just was them up and strap that mess down... the other day I rolled back into the yard with two nicely folded and rolled farps on my bed... I go to drop my trailer and pull into a slot next to a guh who had his tarp all wadded up... well, like I always do, I do a walk around my trailer making sure all is good befor I drop it... well, he rolls down nis passenger wing and honks his horn to get my attention.. I go see what he wants... he tells me they have a machine and I dont need to fold and rolll the tarps... so I say... well, even so, I would be emarassed to roll down the road with a wadded mess on my bed.... he laughs and says.. easy to say when the weathers good, wait till hoj gotta do it in he rain or wind.. hou will just wad it up... I just shrugged and got back to work... you have to be a fool to argue with a fool... I have folded and rolled in pouring rain and gusty wind...

Now... here is the thing... I have had O/Os offer me a job.. doin the same thing I am doin now... pulling menards loads... and he talks to every O/O he sees in the yard to see if they will hire him, but go figure no takers... why would an O/O trust his truck, and lively hood to a driver who only does what they have to, doest even care enough to flod a roll a tarp...

I do wear bright clothes.. I didnt at first... but... often I am on a dark two lane and need to pjll over to check and tightenmy straps... and I would rather be safe and visable then cool and fashionable...
