    I posted a question several weeks ago about getting back into trucking, got decent responses.
    Here's the scoop, my wife has an excellent job with Lockheed Martin, so I really don't need money to make ends meet, but I was laid off back in 2008 and attemted to start up my own business, Arg! Tough out there! I have been reading just about every form about trucking and it's so negative. I have my cdl but haven't driving since 1997.
    I am board out of my mind and I don't need to be home now the kids are grown up, also my wife doesn't mind me being gone for extended periods of time. What i read scares me what truckers are saying. Is it really that bad out there now?
    I'm 56 never had any accidents, never any dui's, no moving violations in the past ten years, never been convicted and some college. I'm looking at Schneider (teams), USX (teams) or Stevens.
    Thanks for your input.

    You will always hear more bad than good. It really is what you make of it. I came back after a 28 year hiatus and am glad I did.

    Your company choice will have a lot to do with it too. Personally, teams are not for me, I prefer the solitude. I went with Stevens but really was just looking for refrigerated work. No reason for that other than my personal belief the economy is not yet recovering and even in bad times, people have to eat.

    Good luck with tour decisions.

    you realize without recent driving experience you will have to at least take a refresher course if not start over
    insurance companies demand it

    Yes that really sucks, I have my pilots license and if I wanted to fly again all I have to do is take a flight test roughly 4 hours also up date on new rules and regulations. Go figure? Oh and that's why I'm looking at Stevens.

    Yes Cobra, I am still with Stevens. Miles so far are ok, as they get to know me better so will the miles.and runs. Part ofnthe learning curve as they say.

    3 takeoffs and landings within the preceding 90 days and you're all set for passengers. Haven't flown in 90 days? Tell yer buddy to wait at the hangar for a few minutes, go out and get your 3 takeoffs and landings and you're good to go. You can fly passengers or freight (even in multi-engine jet aircraft) as long as you don't get paid for it and you're qualified with the aircraft. Flying "for hire" is where the heavy restrictions come in.

    You can tool around in your Eclipse 550 jet at over 40k feet and over 400 mph with passengers as long as you're qualified in that aircraft, and if you can afford it. You could even take your 10 break from your truck, hop in the jet and fly your buddies to a tropical island for a milkshake, fly back and drive your truck .. as long as it's been 10 hours. You wouldn't even have to worry about a drug test until you're back on duty under your CDL.

    Lol, me like that idea NewbuisErectus;
    Lets see Bahamas from who knows where and back, by the time I set flight plan, wait for departure time, fuel, and back I would be able to kiss the ground and hop back into my moving office and all this with jet lag, eeeeeee. :biggrin_25518: Oh, not to mention 2 weeks driving to pay for fuel. Fuel based on pounds per hour.

    Dassault Falcon 350 GE engines, Yep that's me!
