So I was at the shipper and they require your tandems to be slid to the back before passing the gate. I stopped at the sign and did it, but this dude behind me tried to pass me and couldn't. Got mad and backed up, hollered something. Then I was waiting for the truck in front of me to unlock their doors, but they were having trouble (trainee) and it was cold. So I couldn't go anywhere. The guard checks my trailer while the guy in front was doing his thing, and the jerk behind me started racing his engine when I was back there. I was like....OK? . Anyways...is there some sort of etiquette rule about letting others pass while at a guard shack? What other unspoken etiquette rules are there? I'm still pretty new (2months).
Trucking etiquette....

The dude behind you was a jerk. You did your thing, and stayed safe. Just gotta ignore jerks like that. Sadly, they are becoming more common in this industry.

Locations vary, However in my AO. No other Inbound tractor trailer should be passing me while checking in the guard shack unless it's the yard jockey or the guard approves for a wave around for a common carrier to drop off empties or some other reason for receiving Truckloads ( TL )
Clarify: I Do LTL, Other LTL will never pass. It's common for ( TL ) to pass
Simply put, Driver behind you was a smack off.stryker5673 Thanks this. -
This is when you intentionally take longer and smile and wave while you do it. There's no reason for his behavior. So enjoy screwing with him. He earned it.Vilhiem, UKJ, stryker5673 and 10 others Thank this.

just ignore the idiot. Follow the protocol outlined at the guard shack you'll be fine.
Stupid drivers have to air out their stupidity somewhereShaggy and stryker5673 Thank this. -
I can only see him getting upset IF you were taking up more space than you needed, such as if you were 5' from the right side of the pavement/drive and intruding into the other lane of traffic (driveway) flow. I wasn't there, so can't say if that other driver was justified at all.
Tho he does sound like a douche with the revving of engines and childish behavior.
Consideration for others, being observant of others, and common sense is the best "trucking etiquette".
One thing that's for certain... no matter what, there will ALWAYS be super-truckers and jerks of all types and degrees.stryker5673 Thanks this. -
Just give him a blank stare, and then start speaking in a language that no one has heard of.....
stryker5673, Vilhiem and Danvitt Thank this. -
I think the majority of us agree that after you pull up after fueling, don't stay in the pilot for a 1/2 hr ordering your subway and making us back up and creating a traffic jam in the pilot lot

Klingon works well here. Everything sounds like a threat! Q'Pla!
