From what I've read, the minorities have the container and port jobs all locked up. Better off looking at other options.

That's correct. Plus you'd need an ex-schneider orange freighshaker truck decked out with chrome mudflap hangers, a 20 inch gangsa drop visor, cartoon stickers down both sides. and custom flames on the hood. It aint easy trying to look cool while dragging a scummy container.

Michelangelo Thanks this. -
Right now I'm hauling containers. Not because I want to but because I was in a tough spot and use to own a trunk doing it. Use to make good money doing it, now its better to just run a co truck. But most days are about 10 to 12 hour days and pay about 150 a day. I run from charleston to charlotte most days. The ports suck but mostly because of the chassis they put the boxes on. There are always lights out or flat tires or its not even where they say it is. It is your responibility once you take it out so if something is wrong you have to get it fixed before u roll out. Which means u have to sit in a line and wait for repairs that are not even your fault. If you get a good chassis it is best to hold on to it as long as u can, having to pick up chassis is what takes the most time, the rest is pretty smooth. But the chassis hunt can be a real pain. When I was bringing in $1500 to $2000 a week after expenses it was worth the trouble but for $600 to $700 a week it is not. Some people do it for years I myself will do it until something better comes along as it does pay the bills. I mean it is tough but you are home every night for the most part most companies are smaller so you are on a name basis, but you can pretty much count on something going wrong at least once a week. It is best to make the port in the afternoon to get your load for the next day you don't want to have to get your load in the morning that will make for a long day. I like to get mine so I can be on the road by 5 or 6. Tha port doesn't open till 8 so u get on the road if your lucky by 9 at the earliest then have to do your run and get back to the port by 4 so u are stuck rushing all day. Good luck.

Spacecoast and jtrnr1951 Thank this. -
I started in FL but it was in Jacksonville. I believe the reason there's very few jobs down south of the state is because it's the end of the line. Most trucking companies want their hubs to be located in an area where they can go any direction.
Las Vegas Nv was the same way. It's in the middle of the LA to Salt Lake City runs. Plus there's not that much production of products going on.
