I got my GED, BS and an AAS.
About all it's good for is if I ever get out to being an Independent O/O which is my goal right now.

I hear ya MN. I have a BS in nursing. It's not ever going to help me much on the road. In fact I got my degree in Minnesota. I grew up there and lived there until 1998. That's when I had enough snow and opted for sizzling heat. But's that off the topic really. My only point was he shouldn't worry about the GED at this point. He can do that anytime.

I used to own mustangs and camaros and drive em like they were made to.
But after having to constantly fix my stuff, always needing tires, losing my license for 4 years, and then one day as I was ridge running in Kentucky, it occurred to me;
What if one day I round one of these corners and there is a little kid (or anyone for that matter) in the road, broke down on the side, or someone riding a horse, and I plow into them and kill em. I'd never be able to live with that...
So, I stopped driving like that. Now, everyone will tell you, I'm one of the most careful drivers out there. Betcha. My wife teases me about it "I'm gonna fall asleep" lol - my friends tease me that if (in jest) we ever get into robbing banks I am NEVER to be the get away car driver! haha
It's not worth it. I had a 14 hour day yesterday, traffic, BS in NYC and I was really anxious to get home before 10pm. Well, I found myself wanting to push that limit.
But in the end, to gain a couple of miles and a couple of extra min's of time...
just aint worth it kid
And, don't be offended at me callin ya kid
where I work, the mechanics call me kid. Guess it's cause I'm the youngest driver for the company.
And that's kinda cool. Especially if ya feel old sometimes.LuckyTexas Thanks this. -
I'd say YOU GO for hanging in there and taking care of your responsibilities and taking care of your family.
But don't give up on that GED. I had to get mine just to get in the Army.
And numerous times since moving into the public work force I have not regretted or thought it a waste of time.
Hang in there. Take each day a step at a time. Set SMALL GOALS to achieve and get 'em.
Most importantly? DON'T GIVE UPMNdriver Thanks this. -

If YOU'RE in a position to be picky then do your research here on the different companies.
Me? I wasn't in much of a position to haggle with a DUI that is just approaching the 5 yr mark, so I had to take basically whoever would hire me.
Now I see why. Be careful. I went with a local company and if you read my thread "So what do ya'll think?" you'll see what I mean.
At this very moment, my wife is yelling to me that the company just posted another ad for employment and had me "on call" for the day, after last night, with NO CALL for work till tomorrow. But yet, they are putting up ads hiring new drivers?
Know what that tells me? They have had, and will continue to have, a high turn over rate.
ALSO, the ad says "$800-$1,000 weekly" - let me tell you, on my BEST week, I'm quite shy of that $800 mark.
