Probably I was asking the wrong question.

A1- What’s the part of your day that you dislike the most?
B1- What are the current Apps that you use? C1- What are some of the things that you wish they did?

Anything you would "input" into the app should already have been taken care of.

    A) getting out of bed.

    B) weigh my truck, truck stop pro, Google maps.

    C) deliver strawberry shortcake on demand. With FRESH strawberries, none of this canned crud.

Sorry for the snarky answers but it is a pretty crowded marketplace.

There are already apps for most tasks that work rather well. The major barrier is cost - getting the needed data and putting it into a useful form takes significant time and resources while the market of users willing to pay for thst service is small.

Our fuel optimization program is decades old and doesn't work the way we want it to. We haven't rebuilt it because the cost to do so would never be recouped.

So you would enter that a tire was loosing pressure, so it might fail this trip. Instead of fixing the problem? Would go for anything that you would input. Manufacturers already have spent a lot of time to determine the life of almost every part there is. If you think you can predict with any success when something will fail in the future maybe then you would have something.

    Träger and gentleroger Thank this.

Special thanks for strawberry shortcake comment.

I hear you, in many industries, rebuilding software becomes a forbidden task since a lot of systems are tangled or intertwined. Even if user experience is affected.

How would you like the fuel optimization to work?
How much of a problem is fuel optimization (outdated software problem) ?

    Good question.
Before I answer, I have to mention that I don't have an app, all I have is an app IDEA. That's why I'm running it by the field experts to let me know if it is/isn't going to work. Again, I'm not selling anything. I'm seeking your opinion.

Now, to your question, trucks are complicated systems. You can say that tire pressure going down is fairly obvious to spot.
The scenario I'm trying to predict is "before it happens". Something in future is going to happen to the tire since I drove XYZ miles, my truck is type ABC , last time I went for tire maintenance was QRS months ago.... Etc

Now measure the same on breaks, engine, electrical, ...

Ok, to answer your question about manufacturers.
Some are building such apps for internal use.
In general they would need to get some sort of usage data in order to build the prediction system(s).

It's very rare to see someone do a pretrip in the morning to catch pretty much the simplest and most common issues that occur with trucks, burned out lights and tire issues. Which takes less than a minute to walk around and check.

I dont think having an app telling these drivers to check this or that is going to really make a difference or energize any of them...

Your app to me sounds like its telling some of these guys it's time to spend money on maintenance, which would be a sin for them to do...

    Träger Thanks this.
