First off, I signed up for unlimited service and have been trying to get them to cancel the card for some time. It wasn't until recently, after an e-mail to Hesse's assistants that they finally agreed to do so. I'm not your average user and I know how to monitor the traffic that goes through my network.

Second, I know there's more than a fair share of truck drivers who don't have access and don't want to pay $5/day to access the 'net while they wait 2 or 3 days for a load. I can see how much traffic I'm using and how much each host is using and cut them off at will if they're abusing my generosity.

But that's not what this thread was about. I was curious what these TruckPC's accessed the Internet for.

Might want to take a gander at this then...

The passage of the Patriot Act also made it much easier to prosecute unauthorized access cases, whether it be access to a computer or network.

You had to dig deep for that article, July05? I never did find the results of that case.

I have a question for you. When you buy a wireless router, by default its unsecure and broadcasts SSID. Does this mean the maker of the wireless router is at fault? Even though the instructions suggest using the encryption settings. OR, by default on Microsofts wireless application on your notebook, its connects to the first available wireless network. Does this mean Microsoft is at fault ?

Here is a interesting article to read>>

Nope. Regardless of the initial settings, it's incumbant upon the user to ensure they use the product within the confines of the law.

It is not the machine that grants permission or denies it. It's the individual who owns or runs the service who grants permission. If you do not have permission from the owner, you do not have the right to use it.

Yeah. I didn't mention that you have to have permission of the network owner.
