some of those old clunkers are worth keeping. i started out with a 2003 freightliner that got 7.9 mpg, weighed 28,500 with an aluminum trailer, and never broke, from 425000 to 675000. wonderful old beater.

now i have a deathstar. 6.2 mpg, 31,500 pounds, and i use the check engine light to read my maps at night.

    DrFlush Thanks this.

:biggrin_2556:I guess I lucked out then. The biggest beef I have is the APU never shuts off because the batteries can't hold a charge worth a dam even after driving a 10 hour day. Run the map light for 10 minutes and its all "BEEP-BEEP-BEEP, you're out of juice, sucka!"

I think its showing in my mileage too- I should be getting better than 6.3 with the cruise at 58, right? Better get that fixed right quick if I'm keeping her for awhile.

yeah my apu i'd shut it off in the morning to start my day and while i was pre tripping my truck it would automatically shut on out of no where. Just foggy headlights where you have to turn the brights on to see, other drivers dont even know you have your brights on thats how fogged over they are. They strong trucks and for the most part run the hell out of them even high mileage, just if it wasnt so beat up and ragged out would just look like a cleaner of a truck outside wise and more regular maintenece instead of running it into the ground would be nice. I'm sure for the most part no one wants to get maintenence done whenever they get routed to a terminal if they go to one when theyre out and sit forever while it gets worked on. It doesnt matter like i said before run it good safely i guess is the best part with minimal to none break down time

If it gets me my fuel bonus I'll sit in the terminal for an afternoon- fair trade, I think. You should get to the front of the line for those headlights, though. I'd cry safety hazard on day one if it were my ride.:biggrin_25512:

My truck while there was 4384a and it had the same issue with the headlights. Tried using the polish to clean it, but no go. So I just ran my brights. Its only bad when its foggy...

I had appleton polish the headlights in my old truck, Gary wouldn't do it but Appleton did, I am sure Iron Mountian or Marshfield would also. They were like brand new and I could actually see where I was going at night

What did they use to polish them? I might do mine myself.

What sense does it make to have the cruise set different then the foot on the pedal? Seems like a dumb idea to me.
