Trucks gelling up in the winter, what is the solution?

This is just my opinion I honestly have had better success with Howes I would like to say Howes works better with a Cat than Power Service and Power Service seems to work well with a Cummins but I don’t have much experience with a Cummins nor do I care ever too

 

Our equipment sits out on the job without being plugged in. This time of year we put one of the smaller jugs in our 100 gallon transfer tanks if we can't mix #1 with it and are good down to 15 below usually. Colder than that it doesn't pay to work.

 

I've seen a shop fill my fuel filter full of transmission fluid and fire right up

 

Frostbite is damage to body tissue caused by extreme cold. A wind chill of -20° Fahrenheit (F) will cause frostbite in just 30 minutes. Frostbite causes a loss of feeling and a white or pale appearance in extremities, such as fingers, toes, ear lobes or the tip of the nose. If symptoms are detected, get medical help immediately! If you must wait for help, slowly rewarm affected areas. However, if the person is also showing signs of hypothermia, warm the body core before the extremities.

Hypothermia is a condition brought on when the body temperature drops to less than 95°F. It can kill. For those who survive, there are likely to be lasting kidney, liver and pancreas problems. Warning signs include uncontrollable shivering, memory loss, disorientation, incoherence, slurred speech, drowsiness and apparent exhaustion. Take the person’s temperature. If below 95°F, seek medical care immediately!

If medical care is not available, warm the person slowly, starting with the body core. Warming the arms and legs first drives cold blood toward the heart and can lead to heart failure. If necessary, use your body heat to help. Get the person into dry clothing and wrap in a warm blanket covering the head and neck. It was -33 Saturday morning with a windchill of -70 in western nd. were record lows in my town in not just on that day, but any day. 3 months ago i had a marathon I was running cancelled 2 hours before the start due to record heat in October. Wish this planet would make up its mind

i worked through the entire arctic blast with no problems. I ran straight #1 diesel in my truck, no additive. Lots of gelled trucks on the side of road. #2 with additive is fine for single digits and even single digits below 0, once it starts getting double digits below 0 and even in the -20’s your gonna want to skip the additive and run straight #1

 

what RPM is high idle for you

 

1000 or more for me.

 

It was a good one. I filled up my pickup with #1 the weekend before. Had it plugged in and never had a problem all weekend. Just gotta plan ahead.
