No I changed the fuel filters. At the time it wasn't stuttering on take off as much but I noticed the loss in fuel mileage and I'd have to drop 2 gears on a hill running empty. They test drove my truck bobtail..... Now it's stuttering more when the egines cold. It's just a slight drop in power. I usally run light loads 15000-25000. I'm starting to think it is the egr valve. Or exhaust back pressure valve. It's reacting like the egines just isn't getting enough air at times. When I'm running 67 or higher it runs fine.

The last time the OP posted was April 6th 2016, so I'd imagine his Inter-trashional left him broke and he got out of the game.

Throwing good money after bad is never a good thing.

amazing to me how so many company drivers want to tell business owners what to spend their money on and how to run a business. the saying is true, if its not your money its easy to spend.

Unfortunately the Maxxforce 13 is like one of those kids no one understands, a good kid, but complicated, so the rest of the kids just bully it. The forums are full of stories about trucks and engines going into the shop and coming out with staggering bills, bills enough to break the owner operator. I'm not talking about this engine or even Prostars in general. The idea of pitching an option like the 0-60 snap test that will tell you how the engine is responding or not is just an ideal sales gimmick unless you plan to use it properly. My experience is they don't want to participate as long as there are no codes to tell them which parts to replace. The problem is finding a tech who can appreciate the drivers need for the proper operation of a truck they spend millions of miles operating. These people can easily compare this operation to rigs they have put millions of miles on in the past that have run wonderfully.
Part of the answer is put an expensive auto shift transmission behind it and send it out make some money and never mind the little stuff. What I hear from this post is the 5 mpg issue. For engines that can average 7 mpg under most conditions, this story tells me there is the issue that the dealerships that sell you the thing should move heaven and earth to help you solve the problem, because the truck is eating all your lunch, but they just aren't capable. I have had Cummins and Detroits that were problematic like these Maxxforce engines but they at least had engine reps and techs that were solid and knew their product.
It's hard not to bully the kid when the parents won't let him back in the house, like the dealerships don't even want them on trade for a new one. My question is "Why would some one do that all over again"
I think Heavyd almost stands alone here in trying to help out the Maxxforce customers and he deserves much gratitude. While most of them are long gone, there are still a few of them out here and they are doing ok if you think 800,000 miles and still working ok is decent.
