While driving I see some old signs of former truck stops. Isn't there an old sign for a Whiting Bros. Truck Stop on I-40 west of Albuquerque? Also, on US-6 between Price and Provo there's a former truck stop. I was wondering when the last time these were open.

76 truckstops were long gone before I started driving. It would’ve been cool to experience them in their heyday.

At a time long ago that's all there were.
We had Husky, Skelly, Union 76, Texaco, Sinclair etc.
I remember when the TA chain came around, TSA back then. They were plush. Great showers and a restaurant w a well stocked store that catered to truck drivers as far as product selection.
Last week stopped at the Ryan Rd TA on 94..
What a dump! Can't fathom that chain being around much longer.
Thinking back I remember sending postcards back home in the mid 70s from truckstops in new states I drove thru..lolLast edited: Sep 22, 2022

There use to be 3 or 4 in Portland, Or that are long since gone but I only remember the name of a couple. The stockards and burns brothers.
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Mass 10 was on U.S. 20 near Auburn, Mass., a town just south of Worcester, where I-90 meets I-290. The truck stop was known by many who ran in that region. The owner, who spun the derogatory nickname to his advantage, is remembered for his over-the-top generosity to truckers.
