Congrats. Where is the school located in Houston? I live near 1960/249 area. I am looking at Stevens and Swift. Would much rather go to school here in town.

It's actually a 30 month repayment of the school tuition, if you go to the school in Dallas. It is a one year commitment to work there and then you are free to seek employment elsewhere, but you still need to keep making the payments for another 18 months. If you don't last the year, say you turn in your truck at 8 months after several break downs and other issues that cause you to end up $2700.00 in the hole as an Alliance driver, Stevens nice collection agency will call you up to collect $8400.00 and more.
They like to present themselves as if they are a law firm, and will tell you they are trying to help you avoid the civil suit that is getting ready to be filed.
I did have one good thing come about however. I found that if you list the debt on your bankruptcy and they do not show up at the hearing, it may get discharged, even though they will repeatedly tell you it can't be as it is a "student loan".
It took them over a year to finally put something in writing, which they did after discharge. I promptly dropped the letter off at my lawyer who wrote them a very nice letter telling them she will reopen the case and have them sanctioned and fined if they ever contact me again.
I haven't heard anything from them since, but I'm not going to sweat it anymore. Funny thing, I keep getting postcards and letters asking me to come back and drive for them.hellomcflywakeup Thanks this. -
As a newbe i am unaware, or being 22 and my only life experience was 4years as a grunt. But all theses people who can't afford a school or pay off the obligation they cant fulfill... All have lawyers fighting cases. I paid 150bucks for a lawyer to fight a no insurance no inspection ticket and I still got both tickets... Maybe I didn't spend enough money?

Lawyers have to make a living too. the only difference is they get paid whether they produce (win) or not (lose).
But they have your money!
There's an old axiom: You want justice? Go to a ##### house. Wanna get screwed? go to court. -

Go with Stevens if you value subpar pay, no benifits and sporadic hometime. Or you could value your services and yourself and find a better company.
-
Pay is about even with other starter companies. $35-38,000 first year.
Remember... Stevens is a starter company. They are there to train you to get to the next level.
Those companies you see advertising .48 per mile don't pay that to rookies. And in most cases, those companies don't take on trainees.
If you want average starter pay, hometime for a training company, but EXCELLENT training...that which will get you to those 'better' companies, you can't do better than Stevens.
IMHO.
(yes, I drive for Stevens)0260, SpyderRyder, DenaliDad and 1 other person Thank this.
