I'm not sure on that, but I think UPS does line haul. UPS Freight, which use to be Overnite does delivery of bigger stuff. Overnite use to deliver stuff to the auto parts warehouse I use to work at. Skids of stuff like alternators, starters, etc.American-Trucker Thanks this.

I used to work at an officemax distribution center and the UPS freight guy would take like a skid of paper that was going to one place. And our regular UPS guy would take a skid that had several boxes on it going to different individual people, I guess you could say. I'm guessing they took those pallets to a UPS warehouse to break down and sort through to figure out where it's going? I was always kind of curious about that. I'm glad I saw this thread. I always wondered why the UPS freight trailers always said overnite on it. It seemed like a pretty good job though from what I saw on my end.

whats the pay Differance for Freight Vs. UPS?
American Trucker -
UPS makes about $5 an hour more then Freight....but it could take you 10 years to drive for UPS......you will most likely drive for Freight within a year, if not right awayLilbit and American-Trucker Thank this.

Thank you!

How did I do on the rest of it?
-
yes UPS Freight has linehaul...run few hundred miles a night and back, home every night 95% of the time
the difference between UPS and UPS Freight is UPS is a small package company, UPS Freight is an LTL carrier just like Conway, Old Dominion, AABF, Estes etc....
so if you have 1 box that weighs 20 pounds to ship, you call UPS....if you have 3 skids that weigh 1000 pounds each, you call UPS FreightAmerican-Trucker, jakebrake12 and Lilbit Thank this. -
You explained it so much better than I did!

Freebird135 Thanks this. -
only ups in the midwest is not in the teamsters pension, the northeast and other parts of the country are still in it. ups freight is set up in the company pension plan, which is what the midwestern states that were formerly in the cspf are now a part of. and the workrules at ups freight are OK, but are not better than nmfa work rules. they are set up to compete with the non union carriers.
