BTW, my friend was able to find his jumper cord, so I fiddled around with it last night. Noticeable improvement over my previous setup, so thanks to everyone! Keep posting, though, lots of good information here...

    So...

Figgerin' to start the cheapest route, I put on the Francis antenna and Astatic coax, and gave it a whirl. Good news is, my range is about 3 miles now. Good enough for me.

typically, for impedance reasons, it should be no longer than 12-18 inch jumper made of the same type you are checking, thats not always available, so use a 90% shielded mini type coax so as to keep the circuit resonate.

co-phase 9-12 ft lengths for each antenna will yield a 49 ohm load. this is why they use it in trucks that are co-phased, along with an impedance xformer for the cheaper models that companies use as a cheap way of getting by. put a headache bar on the back of the truck observing bare metal contact to the back panel, remember, use a piece of coax that has several stranded center and a 90% shield.

most people get it wrong, its not 4 watts, its 4 watt current draw to the final amplifier.
