Hay all! After hearing some interesting advice about load planning in a few threads in the forum thought that it was better to test it myself. Talk to a couple of my drivers and who was up for the experiment of trying to book a few loads in advance and test if that helps (company & drivers) have less trouble down the road and find better overall average rates for the Trip.
I'll be posting the loads I find and trouble (or not!) that I come across during the experiment.
Hope also to hear your feedback and comments on the decisions or findings that I come across.
Trying the Pre-Plan experiment

I'm starting out of Miami, FL so I don't have a lot of good options. But I manage to book a couple of loads for the 2 trucks:
- Truck#1:
- Load#1: from Hialeah, FL to Rockledge, FL (199 mi @ $300 & P: 10-17 | D: 10-18)
- Load#2: from Holly Hill, FL to Freehold, NJ (1060 mi @ $1,500 & P:10-18 | D:10-20)
- Truck #2:
- Load#1: from Hialeah, FL to South Bay, FL (72 mi @ $275 & P: 10-17 | D: 10-17)
- Load#2: from South Bay, FL to Jessup, MD (1080 mi @ $1,188 & P:10-17 | D:10-19)
- Truck#1:

$1.00 per mile out of Florida is better than dead heading, but can't you deadhead to Atlanta and get decent rates from there?
izifaddag and trucking.shine Thank this. -
Find a load to Atlanta, then find secondary load ... preferably west.
izifaddag and trucking.shine Thank this. -

I don't understand coming out of a bad rate area with loads going to another???
izifaddag, FreightlinerGuy and HalpinUout Thank this. -
The rates are not the issue, the time would be if there are delays, I tried to do that a while back to see if we could keep the drivers moving and ran into some delays like traffic between the first and second load that delayed the pick up. A further bit of a problem was running into the HOS 11 hour limit, it really wasn't easy to deal with when the agents/brokers were committing themselves to tight time schedules to keep the customer or not passing it along to the posting broker who just saw the load get covered by a 3PL.
