Looking for out like that is not necessarily the problem, a lot of it has to do with the geographical locations. Today is Saturday I am booked through Wednesday of next week. However I am an averaging $2.40 a mile on all miles. I did the same thing last week and the week before still looking out 4 to 5 days ahead.

You can pull this off if it's loads you've done before or you have a solid relationship with the brokers you're working with, but it's not the norm.

Actually that's not true at all. With the exception of the very first load I took out the house last week I have never used any of these Brokers before. I've also not hauled for any of these customers before.
It's not really rocket science, identify the best freight Lanes stick to them and do not deviate from your price. For everyone load I take I probably turned down a dozen more. Because of that, my rolling 30-day average is $2.43 per mile on all miles. I have not even touched a tarp since July.

How's the driver supposed to make any money.
Unless he's paying them by percentage he won't
Have to worry about pre planning loads. His trucks will
    Be empty.
No way your gonna work me to death with 250
Overnight trips everyday for 600 bucks a week.

    Pay the driver a salary.
I'd rather make my $1000 per week driving 2000 miles.

If the driver drives past a certain threshold he gets a bonus.

There are a bunch of ways to pay drivers. At the end of the day if this is what running a profitable spot market truck looks like the owners will figure out how to pay adequately. If they don't they won't have drivers. It's not like there's a shortage of trucking jobs...

Never let any detail distract you from the only number that matters at the end of the week: that direct deposit. If that number is wrong why it's wrong becomes kind of important.

@Oscar the KW I'm borderline profitable... But these are the loads I can find through the Load Boards.
Do I suck that much??? Or is it that finding good paying loads on Load Boards is much harder?
Should I try to move my trucks to the West, and let them stay there and then bring them home after 3 weeks.

@izifaddag We're based in Florida so it's impossible not to come here!

@Scott72 you're right. One of the problems of preplanning is that Brokers feel they have the time to book the load, so when I try to book something far in advance I don't get the best Rates... Part of my conclusions of this experiment.
