I know some older guys in working their own equipment in the film industry as teamsters that make a #### good living, get to hang around and graze all day on the nice snack table and catered food. I know I have a blast working on set with these guys. And they work when they want. Maybe something to look into there for ya. I do completely understand what you are getting at about having to be out there since I am getting stir crazy here myself.
Since you are a bus driver currently a great piece would be a motor home that is used for office space. They get a very nice equipment rental plus the standard union wages.
explain the office/Rental to me. never heard of it. also the post about the sleeper in trailer. ..I had wondered if you could do that with a straight truck with 26 feet of box and be legal
Well production companies always have a motor home or 5th wheel style trailer that they use on set at remote locations like the a parking lot where they set up a mobile office. The owner of the equipment is hired on a per job basis and gets a rental fee for the use of the equipment as well as a drivers wages if they are teamsters they get 28 an hour for the first 8 hrs, time and a half after 8 of course, double time after 12. My usual location day is about 16-18 hrs. I have had quite a few days where I got paid for 24-36 consecutive hours. This is just a basic outline. There are non union guys that also get a very decent wage. The reason teamsters get so much is because there are a lot of times where because of the weird film industry regulations they are required to hire union only for certain positions such as a driver. as far as a straight truck with a sleeper being legal I believe the only requirement is that it must a minimum of a 36" sleeper. Look at the hot shot company Panther. I think there website shows a straight truck with a sleeper for reference.
