If I'm trying to return equipment to carrier, but they refuse to route me to drop off equipment, what are my legal options? I'm trying not to get a abandonment on my DAC Report. Only thing that I can think of is taking pictures of equipment (inside and out), recording phone calls, text messages, and emails. Possibly getting a police report stating that I tried to turn in the equipment. Oh and I plan on taking my two brand new tires and replacing them with my spare tires.

If you’re an owner operator they can’t refuse to route you to drop equipment off. Just go drop it off.

just drive the truck back to the location if it needs to be returned; you are not an employee.

    Siinman and Lonesome Thank this.

Speak to a dispatch supervisor or any supervisor ( make sure to get a name) and advise them that you wish to terminate your relationship upon a date that is mutually agreeable to both parties. If a mutual agreement cannot be met, then you set the date that you will return the equipment. Make sure to get the names of every person that you speak to. Then put this information on the qualcomm. At this point every conversation that you have on the phone needs to be put on the QC. If they tell you to take the truck to a specific location, advise them to put it on the QC. If it is a offsite location that is not your home domicile, request an inspection of the truck and film the process. Again, get the name of the person that you are turning the equipment over to. Make sure that you fuel the truck first before you let them know of your plans, as they will most likely shut off your fuel card. If you are a company driver contact the state labor board where the company is based and seek guidance. If you are contractor contact your lawyer.
