over the last week or so, i noticed that i would occasionally get an SPn641 code (turbo actuator) first. then at the middle of the week i got SPN 5848, 5743 and 5742 and a derate warning. i checked the codes when i got parked and they all went inactive and the derate message went away. today i spent half the day under the hood and noticed that all of these sensor wires go around/near the hot side of the turbo and i also found all of the heat shield that covers the wiring was bad and in one case, the wiring for the turbo actuator was showing. I went to autozone and bought 10 foot of thermal (cool) tape and some more heat wrapping and rewraped all of the wiring near/around the turbo then ran the truck for an hour and did a forced regen to really get the heat up. no warnings, messages etc. soooooo would a heat blanket on the hot side of the turbo help keep heat down on that side of the engine? i watched a youtube video where these guys put one on their vwand it helped them get faster spin up on the turbo and helped maintain pressure. do any of you put one of these on your turbo?
Thanks in advance.
Turbo blanket or not?

Marine engine’s have all their exh piping blanketed and if you get the real good thick stuff you can lean on the turbo while under full load and never get burned. But the stuff lasts forever in an engine room because it’s away from the elements. Under the hood of a truck you’ll get dirt n road spray and all that junk on it so it wont last as long but it does help with what you’re trying to do.

I put a turbo blanket on mine and did the pipe wrap like you already did. On my Series 60 it made a huge difference in engine compartment temp. Similar to you I used to have wire loom and wires overheated, but not anymore. I believe the turbo spools quicker but I don’t really know if you will notice a difference. It’s a cheap fix and worth it in my opinion.

I’ve often wondered if a turbo blanket would help keep dpf temperature up and promote easier regens .
