Dumb question but I'm not too mechanically inclined at all

how do I know by looking at my turbo if it has :

    1. Internal waste gate
    2. External waste gate

buying a blanket you need to know this and using aftermarket on eBay it's a crap shot for me on how to tell .

The he one I'm looking at says it fits Large T6 Detroit Turbos does anyone know if size T6 is what I should be looking at for a

single turbo / with actuator on the side . 14.0 L 2006 Detroit

If it has actuator on the side its an external waste gate. I have not heard the T6 reference so
    i'm unsure there.

I thought the T-6 detroit was the smaller series, like series 50. Around 265-300 hp. Though I'm not real sure either.

Before we dropped the factory rebuilt 12.7 Detroit in my glider, we put on a Bully Dog coated exhaust manifold, took off the stock waste gate turbo and put on a larger Borg Warner 171702 turbo with a PTP turbo blanket on it. Finished out that with Walker Megaflow mufflers on the stacks. I am happy with the results. On even the hardest pulls on the hottest days, I never experience EGT's higher than 900F unless I don't shift when I should. MPG's in the high 7's for year round average is the nice icing on the cake. That is pulling a lot of heavy bulk product.

The BD manifold is essentially the same as the PP manifold but a bit cheaper. The PTP blanket is every bit as high of quality as the PP version, but substantially cheaper. I used the T6 blanket on my BW turbo.

gotta agree with wore out on this one the only benefit I see is lower underhood temps can't really notice any performance improvements but the cooler cab temps in the summer is nice

Cooler EGTs are way better than higher. That alone would be worth the cost of the blanket.

I can't see how a turbo blanket or wrap can make for cooler EGT's. Please explain ?
