Careful. I don't want this thread locked. Going to post several pics after I get it back going. My failure was pretty much unheard of in similar setups. It was just dumb luck. I got a bad one I guess. The replacement turbo is the same dimensions but has a billet aluminum machined compressor wheel (instead of cast aluminum) and larger bearing. But the price in 4 years time went from $1,680 to $2,250. That was a shocker. I thought $1,680 was bad. Those guys with 12.7 Detroits can probably get 3 turbos to this one at that price. It's #### near as expensive as the $3,000+ turbos on these newer engines.

That sure does sound like a 1 in a thousand chance. Tuff luck! Just for comparison, back in January I put on the BW S410G 175963, my price pre tax was $1786. One of my neighbors blew a turbo on his 6NZ here 2 weeks ago. Right in the middle of harvest, needed to be back on the road pronto, went to Freightliner and got a Cat original @ $4700 + $1000 core. He almost fell over when I told him what mine cost. Hope you're back together and rollin coal soon!

It was $1750 for mine on the Mack about a year ago. 'Bout 10 years ago, truck boss at the logging company I was working for blew the turbo in his Mack and paid a shop $5000 to get it done. Amazing what some shops will charge when they know you don't have any other options...

I just read a thread about a guy replacing the turbo on his 12.7L Detroit last year for $500 and some change. It had 1.4 million miles and he just felt like it was time. Makes my stomach ache to think I could have bought 8 of his turbos to my 2 in only 350,000 miles. Smoking CAT I might have missed a few details about the differences. Really none of those improvements matter anyway would not have made any difference at all.. because of a fluke? My motor is conservative, not big hp, cause I wanted reliability. But I guess sometimes even when you don't play you have to pay.

Yeah a brand new BW is $700 or so for a 12.7 Detroit. I popped a turbo a few years ago, and put a Detroit rebuilt one on. 8 months later on 24E north of Nashville, part of the casting came off and shredded the exhaust impeller. Had it held out a couple more months, I would have been buying another $800 rebuilt turbo. The next one will be a new BW.
My o/o back in the day popped his 600hp 3406e turbo and it cost him $4k.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can't get it to upload into my album from my computer and having it in photobucket is no help either. I have posted pictures before it's just been a long time ago. Have no idea what the problem is.
