Got it finished today...had a couple other issues pop had to take care of while it was down. Got both rebuilt for $2083 that was out the door. Did most of the labor myself.
Turbo took a dump today.

So, it's been a couple of weeks since you did the repair, and as a newb/wannabe trucker, I'm curious how it's working out for you?
My Dad started his own excavating company back in the '60s and I remember him telling me in my early teens, "you'll never make it on your own if ya cant fix your own s&$t" and he was correct. If a turbo went out on one of his old 955H cats (powered by a 3404) we would pull it out, remove the cartridge, and either get it repaired or buy a reman unit, then install it. Sometimes right in the front yard of a new house under construction. If he would have had to load up the machine, and bring it to a shop for every repair like that, he'd have never grew into having 10 operators, and 10 truck drivers at the same time, because all that money would have went into the repair shop's hands. He is retired now, and well off, thanks in no small part to that ability.
On the other hand, if you read any of the trucker mag's, or see any of the advertisements touting fancy turbos, upgraded intake systems with better intercoolers, giving more horsepower, engine response and efficiency, this would be the PERFECT time to go ahead and do the upgrades, because you're in a position where you already need new turbo's, so a huge percentage of the cost of one of these new systems is money you have to spend already. Were it me, and I had a way to pay the additional money, that's the way I would have gone, no doubt. But I'm an innovator by nature, willing to take the risk that it will pay off. Good luck, and please keep us posted! -
