Wore out: impressive. I’ve always hated slow turbos.

Right now, a 1992 425 B model puts the 1998 475 E model to shame on pulling heavy loads.

The B has the factory non wastegated housing. It’s slow at building boost up to about 25 psi but somehow it pulls good compared the the E with the wastegate not connected.

The waste gate has a purpose it protects the turbo from over speeding. Which will break a shaft in a heartbeat no matter how long you have gotten by with it. Turbos are give to get type devices

That would be the one I have on mine. I do not know if they do it to all of them, but I told them I did not care to have over 30 pounds of boost, just wanted it to spool up quicker and at less rpm. when I got it the waste gate rod has a spot weld onit to keep you from adjusting it, not sure if that is standard procedure or not.

132-3649 @AModelCat is a CAT number. We pulled one off a 6TS and put on an old A model of my neighbors. Cleaned it up he says made her a beast lol

I know guys that run with the waste gate line pinched off from day one and get by with it, I pinched mine off and broke the shaft in less than a month, and nearly to prudhoe bay too, so no turbo available . lol
no air to air either, not even one in fairbanks at the time. I had to clean mine the best I could and come home on a prayer. lol

How much fuel your running determines if you can get by pinching the gate off.....mine won't have it not for a minute

Wore out: I do understand the purpose of a wastegate.

The wastegate on the E model is only a spring left now. Keeping the valve shut.

The pressurized part of the wastegate with the hose rotted off.

Some trucks, including my personal Dodge Cummins I have the wastegate blocked on purpose to increase the boost a little more.

But not so far as to chop up the pressurized air, creating heat instead of efficient boost.

Turbos that are prone to shaft breaking, I leave those alone.

If I want performance, I’ll either modify the turbo, or get a different one.

My 5.9 cummins still has the factory turbo. I machined the compressor housing to accept a larger, more efficient compressor wheel which lowered, egt’s, faster spooling and 3 psi higher boost.

3 psi isn’t much, but the performance is incredible, better mpg and less smoke.

Wore out, on mine my ecm has the exact original numbers it came from the factory with in 96. When kw had to put a new block and everything in it before I bought it, they caught the numbers the previous owner had in it and castrated it. As soon as the warranty was out I tried to get them to tell me what they did, and they insisted they didn't cut it back. I had a friend that was a field service guy for cat, he didn't know anything about any custom programming, but could go back to the day it was built, which has done me a good job, so far. so what ever fuel it started life with is what she has, but when I pinched it off, I would haqv eto get out of it, the boost gauge would just keep climbing more than I was comfortable, and If I let off too quick, I would get the woof in the air cleaners.
