I come across those multiple times a week as well. I tend to do the same as you but if it’s a two lane road I will take up both lanes to prevent anyone getting on my sides. I rather do that then get into an accident.

Kinda reminds me of my aunt's driveway when she lived on a hill in rural Tennessee.

You turn the car around up by the house because you AIN'T backing out...

You get to the road and the crest of the hill is about 100 feet to your right and you can't see past it.

US highway 412, 55 mph speed limit. Truck route.

Town is to the left. Turning right just takes you further out into the sticks. So 99.9% of the time anyone leaves that driveway, they're making a left with no way of knowing if a vehicle is approaching from the right.

At least once, every time I was down there visiting, I've had to floor it down that hill because something suddenly appeared right behind me as soon as I pulled out.

My cousin said he just floors it every time. That's gotta be really good for a cold engine.

They lived there for 21 years before moving back into town.

I have no idea how they went that long without anyone getting creamed.

I used to have a regular load from a place like this

there was a slanted T intersection , in a curve

you had to hook the cab around hard to the right to be able to see

and it was uphill and always loaded to 79k so you couldn’t grab any gears once
    You got rolling .

    Once it was clear
You just rolled out and creeped along until the trailer got over the big hump and onto the other road and you could accelerate.

the traffic on the other road that came along after you started out , just had to slow down ow ratio
    And wait .

You have to stop in a place where you can see to the right, no way around it.
"snake" it in somehow so you can see to the right. It helps to recognize and predict the situation that will unfold before you need to stop... Sometimes you have to do it the hard way a few times first. =)
