I had my speed turned up to 76 MPH and made some changes to the power settings. It took 15 minutes and cost 50 dollars. My company had to call Peter-built to get the passwords. I was trying to make the same point about the cost. It would be a lot cheaper to just have a reputable shop make the changes.

software is so expensive and some of the soft ware that is available to fleet owners and or third party service centers do not have the ability to acess tha part of the system, as many mentioned in these engine ecus are password protected, and it is that password that unlocks the features in the software.
I believe it would be cheaper in the long run to just take it to qualified or certified shop that can set it up correctly and cheaper than 3000 dollar s/w with hardware. and that would be some example cost for detroit engine to tune it. by a do it yourselfer, weight it out spend maybe 100 dollars to a shop that has the ability to do it, or pay above $2500 to do it yourself.

Not quite true:
My leased Pete387 with a cat c-13 with 435hp was limited to 70mph at my request. it was so underpowered it was embarrassing, it would cruise at 70mph on the flat at 1450 revs. i got the speed limit taken off completely and now i cruise at 70 at 1350 revs so i actually save fuel and i get an extra run at the hills so i save fuel going up them too. My mpg have gone from 6.7 to 7.1 since the limit was taken off. I'm still going to get the hp boosted up to 470. -
Bully dog is making these devices now for "big rig"
This is for the cummins and is available on their website.
INLINE 5 Adapter (3165033) Item #: 165033 for $765
AND
Item #: 165160 is the cable to attach the unit to the diagnostic port on the truck that is $105.
I did a quick search on ebay for this unit and found several for around 600 bucks.
Good luck
No additional software is needed, but you will need a laptop computer and a 9 pin serial cable to connect the programmer to the lap top.
to make any changes you will also need the passwords to "write" the changes to the ecm. If you do not have them you can buy a "flash" password from Cummins that will allow you to change the ecm password. That runs about $150.Last edited: Nov 13, 2011

The Inline 5 is only an RP1210 translator box. You will need Cummins Insite (software) to make changes. You can download the software from the Cummins Insite site, but you'll have to have to pay the yearly registration fee and call Joe Britt who is the Cummins Insite administrator. When you call him to get set up, let him know what parameters you are wanting to change so he can add all necessary permissions.
Note: The software is not cheap, the translator is not cheap. -
You never did mention what you're driving. Does it even have a Cummins?

I looked into this a while back, and it was so expensive, I could not justify it for my three Detroit's. $100 at the dealer and it was done. Even today, the only way I could justify it is if I was going to Quebec or Ontario quite often, as the time and money would add up setting the truck to 65 every time, then having it turned back up across the border.
Let everyone know what engine you have, and the techs will be glad to tell you what exactly you need and where its the cheapest. -
Where can I find the software to increase power in CAT/cummins ecms? and the correct software not a fly by night place. XOXO
I swear you were reading my mind. When you find out let me know!
So what about for Cummins and Detroits?Last edited by a moderator: Feb 23, 2012
