Could be. That and the young guys don't want to be slaves to the industry. ELDs. DAC reports. 10 year work history when you apply. Micromanagement. Governed trucks. Treated like animals by management. Treated as if you're owned by your outfit just because you have a CDL. Always guilty until proven innocent. Not being allowed to idle in a lot of places in the Northeast. Lack of parking out there. Is it any surprise nobody wants to do this #### anymore?

Once upon a time, OTR was bearable, even at the megas. That changed when they took on the logistics for the big shippers. That's when all those short crappy loads that make little money for the driver got mixed in with normal long haul freight. It's why far too many OTR drivers will never see 3000+ miles/week.

Yeap. The big DCs have done it in. Thank you, Sam Walton. Now you can lose a day on each end of a 700 mile load getting loaded and unloaded. Some outfits are mostly drop and hook, but for most, drop and hook loads are rare.TheyCallMeDave, Hammer166 and mjd4277 Thank this.

And the pay stays the same. Honestly they should just make federal limits on how many CDLs a state can issue cause it seems all these companies are doing now are hiring foreigners that can barely speak English let alone read. “GPS said turn right. I turn right but bridge too low I no know until I stuck!”
Bring up the pay! If you pay peanuts you’ll only find monkeys!UhOhh, mjd4277 and MartinFromBC Thank this. -
If a driver is not making $400 plus every day they work, they should probably ask themselves if they are the problem and why they are paid so low....or is my boss a cheap jerk and then quit. My computer at home shows me what the year to date average daily pay is per driver, or all drivers averaged. So far for 2018 it is an all drivers average of about $508 per day worked, plus they all got their $6000 / year bonus except the brand new hire who hasn't been around long enough. That was last week when i last looked. Doubt it has changed much, but in Abbotsford today so not home to check it as of today.
Nothereoften, Paddlewagon and Hammer166 Thank this. -
Before companies offer less money, they should ask themselves, "Am I truly worth this little? Have I given this driver ANY kind of support through his rookie stage? What intangibles am I offering him in exchange for lesser pay?" Based on what I observe, I suspect at least a few of them are paying exactly what they're worth.MartinFromBC and Ffx95 Thank this.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.
I’m 56 years years old. FIFTY SIX. Been driving OTR for half my life, I work out, I eat healthy, I don’t smoke, my BMI is way below what the unhealthy index is, My weight is in proportion to my height. Trucking is not a death sentence if you don’t want it to be, I pass every DOT physical with flying colors every two years because I know my health is important to me and my family and if I want to remain in this business as a driver then I need to be in good health.
If you want to be in good health bad enough you can have thatNothereoften, kemosabi49, Thane and 2 others Thank this. -
You get with a company that has APU and you cook your own food... Get be surprised how healthy you can remain cooking your own foodThane and Veteran driver Thank this.
