Some day they will compress a video signal enough, to where limited satellite based video can be provided through an antenna like XM/Sirius with no pointing.
Sunday ticket MAX provides all games via the net if you have sufficient data plan and reasonable 4G bandwidth and can live with viewing on a laptop or cell phone.

You are trying to eliminate the dish. That can't be done below 18" size and it has to be pointed directly at the correct satellite with the current technology. But, Dish and DirectTV have billions of dollars. So perhaps in the future they will launch new satellites and create an omni-directional signal type as was said. -
you actually could use your laptop as the tv screen. provided it had the rca jacks. but that doesn't eleminiate the big receiver. -
Where did you get the USB TV tuner and what is the cost?
-
get yourself a copy of the national truckstop directory.it has the zipcode for every truckstop in there just for that purpose.pilot use to sell a satelite tuning kit.in it it had a satelite peaker.when you hit a satelite signal, the needle jumps and you look at the screen and see if you hit the directv signal.i usally was tuned within a minute.radio shack might sell a tuner.
sb677 Thanks this. -
i had the window open. and just listened to the beeps off the tv.
usb tv tuners can be had anywhere. i picked mine up from radio shack last year when i was gonna be stuck in a po dunk town for 2 days waiting for the weather. we all had a big concrete walls that couldn't be unloaded in the wind. i paid $60.
if your gonna be using it a lot. you'll want to figure out someway to have a better antannea. above the cab or something.
digital signals are a pain in the a-- to get. you have just as big a problem at the house as you do on the road. you'll get tv. but the reception will more then likely be poor. but if you play around, you'll eventually get at least one channel to work decent.Hegemeister Thanks this. -
this is the setup i did on the last company truck we had..... it's a NO DRILL install
the parts
the install
i drilled out the welds holding the arm and replaced then with a carriage bolds so the arm can fold down
finished and no one can park next to me and block the dish. it can see over my trailer or truck, from the time i'm park to having it set up is less than 5min and take down time is under 2 min and i don't have to store a wet, dirty dish in the truck
dish charges me $12 a month only because i have a extra box and the extra box is a 2 tv dvr so when i'm sleeping i can record 2 shows at the same time upto 20hr's recorded in a 10 break that i can watch later.... i had the dish and the box leftover from when we upgraded the house to hd
total price for the unstall was under $120, the mast was $85 @ iowa 80 the dish kit for the mast was $25 the rest was around $12 at home depot. the wires run under the sleeper and in thru the same hole the invertor wires usedLast edited: Aug 4, 2012
Hegemeister, sb677 and Sal-XK Thank this. -
that's pretty much what i did. but all i had to buy was two pipes. nothing more. i don't even think i spent $20.
sb677 Thanks this. -
All I get to do after a long day is hope I can get one or two good channels for an hour or so. The truck antenna is very poor at picking up a digital signal. So does anyone have an idea as to what kind of antenna would work for me?
