Hello Everyone,
Was wondering if anybody had any experience with driving a television broadcast truck? I did a phone interview with NEP in Pittsburgh, PA earlier this week and received a phone call today to schedule a road test for Tuesday the 7th. I don't live far from their terminal and the trucks look absolutely beautiful. Other than that, I'm unfamiliar with them or any other TV truck environment. I'm a newbie here and I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I have a friend that works for NEP in the office and as a yard jockey. He has been there a little over a year and loves the company. Keep telling me that I should apply as a driver because they treat their drivers well. I can see if I can get some more info for you.
EDIT:
Sent him a message on Facebook. I'll post his answer for you when he replies. He is in Cinncy right now at a trade show. -
I do some part time for a TV company, NEP is a competitor but... All in all it's a good gig, you drive to the venue, help level and set trailer up, we clean inside too to help out then we pretty much go to a hotel and wait for gig to be done, all shows are different, I've done boxing, tennis, college and pro football, golf and even a wrestling gig!!! You as a driver with our company are pretty much just that, we get paid to drive and set up/breakdown and move on. We get a good mileage pay, perdiem and flat rate for sit days, some are salary I have heard. I saw several NEP trucks at the super bowl this year as we did some work there too.... Nice rigs... The only reason I don't do it ful time with my company is the time away, they require more then I am able to do at this time but one of these days when I can I hope they will offer me full time!!!
The other big thing is... be on time, there is no such thing as late in TV!!! If you are then a lot of high dollar people are waiting on you and the company re takes a hit... on yeah, watch curbs, those trailers are low to the ground and expensive!!! Good luck if you decide to go.... If not, send me their number, maybe they hire from by me!!! -
I know some guys that do that, good gig, BUT, you can't make any mistakes, that trailer costs more than you'll make in a lifetime.

Well, the road test went well and I should hear something next week. Apparently they only hire folks with a clean record because some of the trailers are worth 15 MILLION dollars! Sleeping in the truck is optional, at a show the "clients" pay for a room. On the road its up to you to get the room, but they reimburse you. The money is good for full time guys and you get a perdiem for meals, etc. Seems like an interesting gig, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
jlind and The Challenger Thank this.
