Been here almost 5 years if I can make it to march. But I do have a high tolerance for bull crap. I don't plan on going anywhere no time soon.
Snowshoes Thanks this. -
That's good, I really have to start taking my options serious now. I like the idea of a small company. Do you mind me asking, are you regional, or all 48? Any info you are willing to give I would appreciate it.
Thanks. -
I like smaller companies personally. Even 100 trucks is WAY to big for me. I like 30 trucks or less. You get better treatment, and more home time, and get a chance to call your own shots more. To me that is priceless.
I hate how large companies baby-sit, I hate how they screw you out of home time, I hate how they screw you out of loads and/or miles if they have another driver in the same area that they like better. I hate all the corporate BS.
I'll take small companies with slightly less pay, and slightly more expensive benefits, and save my sanity. But that's just me.
I have driven for small companies that hand me the keys and say "do what you want, as long as we all make money". Large companies tend to say "do as we say, or you'll get no miles, and be sitting in Little Town, USA every weekend".Snowshoes Thanks this. -
I agree with you, the last company I worked for had 5 trucks, they were not governed. "Get the freight to Phoenix, and get back safe" trouble is, very low pay and the equipment was not maintained very well. But I was home every other night and weekends.
I do have an offer from a very small company, but newer trucks, I think they said 15 or so trucks, Petes, Cascadias and a couple KW. still running paper logs (for now) and run to the touching states, Idaho, Colorado, Nevada, etc with occasional runs to Montana, Washington, ND and SD. They are basically my shortlist. Pay starts low, .35 per mile, but like you said, easier to work with the smaller companies, the owner has his own truck and will takes runs if needed. -
I would opt for the smaller company, all other factors (like money) being equal. The chances are you will be treated more like an employee than just one of thousands. With the larger carriers, policies are written for the lowest common denominator; if you happen to be better, you lose.
I worked for a small regional with 50 power units and enjoyed it. The only thing with them was a very limited route structure built around six long-time customers, so I saw the same roads, same docks, same DC, and the same people a lot.Snowshoes Thanks this. -
I notified Randy Sorensen Trucking that I am accepting their offer this morning. 15 Power unitsGiggles the Original Thanks this.

A good way to get back into trucking! And it's easier to ask questions, get clarification, and plead for forgiveness when you make a boo boo...which you will!

LOL Without a doubt!

Looks like he's got 19 trucks pulling Reefers. Excellent vehicle safety score, but he might wanna keep an eye on his driver's logs...driver score is a tiny bit higher than national average---no big deal yet...but I'd crack down on the drivers if I were him, to keep that score down.
Pretty good choice over all (if you're o.k. with Reefer), shouldn't have any problems at scales: http://safersys.org/query.asp?searc...ry_string=1310725&original_query_string=RANDY SORENSEN TRUCKINGSnowshoes Thanks this.
