don't think so - it's saying on the one hand that "as of these dates, these ports will require the TWIC". on the other hand, it's saying "all other ports will be in compliance by April 15, 2009". Almost an apples/oranges thing

Ive had mine for a few months now. My company made us get them, but they paid for them. I have heard that the TWIC will most likely become necessary to get into millitary posts as well as nuke plants or anything with security. It has to do with the whole background check etc. I have only showed it once so far, but I could have used my DL, I just had the TWIC out cause I thought the date had already come and gone. It may be used to help with border crossings as well. Keep in mind that this is all just trucker rumors(even if they sound logical) so healthy doses of salt required and recommended!LOL

Hubby got his 3 weeks ago as company required it, filled out app on line, went to port did the finger print thingy and had it back in a week. Just make sure you take the correct amount in your money order or a credit card........they take no cash for any reason where hubby got his.

When you all got yours who was doing the processing? Mine was contracted out to Lockheed-Martin. Just wondering if they are national or regional. Made my cheque out to Lockheed-Martin.

Im in the process of getting mine right now. Would you all plz tell me how long the whole process takes.. Thanks. I personally dont see why drivers with the hazmat endorsment need it because we (I) have allready had pretty much the same background check for the hazmat.

Dr Venture, Ive been doing alot of reading on this forum and I believe you work or worked for Roehl? I have just received a offer letter from them and I want to be prepared. My plans are to work national flatbed, I read in one of your post you were talking about making youself available by getting different endorsements (HAZMAT, Tankers, Doubles, and TWIC) and I agree with that. What i wanted to know was do you think i should apply for one? And I'm not sure which division you work in but if you can give me any information on Roehl such as what type of trucks they run, average miles or just any info you think would be helpful for a newbie to know. Thanks

They finally routed me in to get a twic card. My company pays for it if you have been there 5 years. If not they take out a few bucks a week until it's paid. I get there and read the instructions. It reads no hats or sunglasses that are not prescription for photo ID I take off my hat the guy says you need to remove your glasses. I said they are not sunglasses they are prescription clear lenses. He says no glasses allowed. These goofballs have no idea what the heck they are doing. It is no wonder there is so much controversy over which port will accept which card. Heck they can't even follow their own simple instuctions.....:biggrin_2554:

Depends on where you go, I guess. The Granite City IL office was slammed with initial applicants when I went to pick mine up last week. The TWIC person in Tampa told me that they run a "tight ship" and could have it done very quickly.

They are finally locking-up the ports so a lot of people that kept putting it off are now in a rush to get one. It may take all day to get the initial interview done, it may not. Make sure you do the "pre-application" online... makes things go quicker when you're in the office. Make sure you take a check or credit card... they don't do cash.

The web site says 6-8 weeks to get it made, and you have to go back to the same office to pick it up... no exceptions. That was a pain considering how my company dispatches. It took a half-hour to pick it up, and get it activated.

It's only part of the background check. Since they scan-in your ID documents, I'm sure they're actually checking the authenticity of them, not just checking off a box like the hazmat check. Can't say what the rest is about. BTW, they will waive part of the fee if you have a recent hazmat endorsement that includes what TWIC needs. Downside: TWIC will expire with your CDL - that may be a problem. I didn't want to go through the TWIC hassle again any sooner than necessary.
