TWIC Card

It took 2.5 weeks for mine to come in. If I cannot justify the cost for things like that, I don't get them. Is it going to make you MORE money? Get it. If not? Well, you've wasted your hard earned cash for the same exact background check they do for HAZMAT.

 

If the company pays for it, then definitely get one

 

My first one was company paid for and took a few weeks. This was when it first came out so the wait was longer. I never used it, then it expired. I renewed when I needed to get into ports for loads and the renewal was fast. Went to the place Monday and got it in the mail that Friday. Nothing had changed except my mailing address so the renewal was very easy. I used it a few times and then had to get a port card as well. Now I'm moving on and probably won't need it or the port card again. It was handy to have, but like it has been said before you'll have to know what you'll be doing if you need it or not. I think it's $128 for the card so if you think you might need it, get it and have it for the 5 years. If you never use it, don't renew. If you have to get it again it's pretty fast to get it IF nothing has changed.

 

get it. it's a tax write off, someday you'll need it, and its great to #### with the TSA as they have to honor it as a form of ID and most of em don't know just what it is

 

Actually they don't, was just looking at the TSA pre-check info, and my wife confirmed this (she works at the Denver Airport) TWIC is not a valid form of entry ID or as a pre-check ID for boarding an aircraft.

I don't currently have it, but come next year when I renew my HAZMAT, I'll be getting it, better to have it and not need it, also, it's a tax write off.

 

I only gave my opinion based on an O/O perspective. Everyone has their own opinions.

As a company driver,.. I think it would depend on the company that I worked for and what my "Job Description" actually was.

I got mine because pgt required it, never even used it because the account i was on never took me to ports or military bases. Here at builders ive had to use it at least once a month picking up in camden

 

i can see that as an o/o you gotta be ready to git going on a high paying load. as my view as a company driver, if i do not have the TWIC, hopefully another driver in the company does. however comes the BS if that driver is 200 miles away and i am on the spot, but just cannot take the load.

if the employer needs it/requires it, then they can pay me to get it. when i leave thier employ? if they want it back, they can have it, little good it'll do them.

it's all in the way each operation or driver/o-o feels as you say.

or lose the load? in your situation, you need to be fully prepared.

I've got my military ID which works at most ports I've been to. Looks nearly identical to a TWIC.
I rarely get hometime during the week to be able to finish getting the TWIC.

 

Where I've been working last several years, I haven't needed my TWIC card but I got to looking at it today and realized it expired in June 2017. Did I royally screw up? I prefer to keep theses sorts of things current, just in case because you never know what might lie ahead.

So, I wonder now, what kind of hell on earth I'l have to go through to get it brought back current.
