Different people give up for different reasons.

Some misjudge their ability to live out of a truck for days or weeks at a time.

Some get fed up with their companies crap.

Some come into it with a misguided thought on how much money they will make &/or how much it cost to live on the road.

Some have a significant other &/or kids that can't handle them being gone all the time. Or they realize how much they miss the day to day family life & being an active participant in it.

Tons of different reasons why people decide trucking isn't for them.

Then there's health. Had a good friend call me up and say he's hanging up his keys. Diagnosed with inoperable cancer, and needs to get into chemo-therapy.

    ironpony,

Sorry to hear about your friend, hope the chemo works for him. In a case such as his I wouldn't call that giving up or quitting trucking. He doesn't have a choice other than to try & beat the disease & that treatment doesn't allow him to drive. Hopefully he will beat it & someday be able to climb back behind the wheel if he chooses.

That sucks! I hope he went on medical leave of absense instead of quitting. Usually a company will keep up your health insurance for 12 weeks. Then you get thrown to the dogs unless you can afford outragious COBRA premiums with no income. No insurance, no chemo. They might expeditie an SSI claim if it's terminal. Then he can get Medicare after a waiting period.

I wish the best for him.
