Is a TWIC card required or a good thing to have if your hauling gas?
Will it help you get a job easier? Thanks!

99% of chemical plants and the ports require TWIC in Houston as they all have water access. Some allow escorted access, most don't.
IMO yes, the more credentials you can lay on the table the better so get it if possible. It may be the only edge you have over the other applicant. -
Most petroleum terminals on the coast require TWIC because of their interaction with ship traffic.
-
Also it will get you onto military installations. I say get it. We require all of our drivers to have one even though we rarely use it. Like others have said....get all the credentials you can.
-
I gig it too used it about 3 times but I'm going to renew it just in case. Also my hazmat too. Hopefully I don't have to get fingerprinted again.

I'm not sure and by no means am I quoting the law or requirement but anytime we had a spill where the product had a possiblilty of reaching a waterwway the Coast Guard got involved. When I talk to my friends on the coast I'll ask.

Based out of Indiana we have loads that require TWIC, not all of our drivers have it, so it just means more work for those that do..
I have hazmat right now, and will get twic as soon as i go on my own.
And I will keep both them. CO I work for pays for both but even if I leave this company I will keep them, its a tax write off, and can be to your benefit. -
I worked on the River before getting my CDL.I've had my TWIC-"Totally worthless Identification Card"for about 4 years and have only had to show it once at a terminal in Philadelphia since I've been driving. Most terminals don't even have readers for the TWIC but you still have to show it. Just another way for the DHS-"Department of Homeland Stupidty"to seperate us from our money. That being said I will keep mine updated and recommend anyone going into tanking that may have to enter a Port Facility to get one.
