TWIC info

    It doesn't take that much time to get and will save time when picking up or delivering at ports. Some shippers also require a TWIC. I have a friend who pulls a reefer and does a lot of pick ups at ports on the left coast. He doesn't have a TWIC and has to pay a lot of money for his escorts. He also wastes time waiting on them. He usually pays almost $100 almost every time he uses an escort. He has paid more. He has pre registered to get his card, but hasn't taken the time to stop and go through the process. Some power plants, especially those with nuclear reactors, also require TWIC cards. Some ports also have their own cards, but you need a TWIC in order to get them. I am not sure that I would spend the money unless you will need to use it. I paid $135 for my TWIC. If you have a hazmat endorsement, the fee was $105 when I got mine. Check with your carrier to see if it would be useful before spending the money.
