We have IL to thank for the TWIC card. The Port of Peoria is the one that initiated and promoted the program. Like someone is going to blow up and inland port that deals in grain and coal. The state goes from illegal CDL's to an all out security program. We all know IL has an unlimited expense acct and how they over tax their citizens. They should keep to themselves and leave the rest of the states out of their money making schemes. :biggrin_25522:

Even with a TWIC, I went through a complete truck search at a banana port of all places.

Umm no peoria was the test site , it was coastguard/hsa that implemented it , and the port of peoria also deals with hazmat , like prop oxide diesel fuel . gasoline and voc's . and they also do some container work there . but if you want to complain ,complain to the do gooders that feel all warm and fuzzy thnking a little plastic card is going to protect them , like the plywood gates gonna stop a 40 ton truck :biggrin_2559:

you and I know if a terrorist where to hijack a semi it will be a free for all on the highway on whos gonna get hiim first , billy bob or joebob ...and if the crash don't kill him, the drivers will that will be the only time a terrorist will be happy to see leo's ( cause he knows we can't kick the crap out him anymore ) :biggrin_25523:

What's the relationship between a TWIC credential and not having your truck searched?

the twic is supposed to mean your a good guy and your background has been check and not considered a threat , and are allowed full unescorted acess to a port terminal . the only places they should search your rig is any nuclear facility or DOD faciity ( where they are required by law , but IKnow they have to do randoms at the ports . who knows he might have a loaded banaana in his truck or worse some icecream and chochlate topping .. :biggrin_25522:

Yes, the TWIC credential implies you are a "good guy" BUT that doesn't mean that "good guys" don't slip up and turn bad. Also there is nothing wrong with searching the exterior and underside of the truck/trailer also. Doing that keeps everyone on their toes.

If they are going to search trucks, then they don't need the TWIC. I told the young guard afterwards, kinda defeats the purpose of a TWIC. He gave me a dirty look.

You spend your hard earned money to get fingerprinted and a background check to prove you are trustworthy, then why shouldn't you be trusted with an ID? I understand a military base or secure facilty, but banana's?

I should of searched the guard, he could of been a terrorist too. Heck, go snatch that cat running down the fence line. He could have a bomb up his ###, lol.

Security is getting a little bit ridiculous. The USA has been in several wars in the past and none of this was neccessary then. Ever since 911 we been running scared. Just what the terrorist wanted.

Even what we have today, there are so many weak area's left where a terrorist can have a field day. There was a guy at an airport with all their so tight security. He watched a pilot punch his code in on a side door they enter. Doh! Security breach. All these incoming foreign flights aren't scanned either. Only a few countries participate.
