My hat goes off to anyone who has driven back before power steering, A/C, cigarette box sleepers and no cell phones. Come to think of it, that actually sounds fun. It seems every time I look in the questions from new driver section on here, all I read is "can I put my 64" flat screen TV, my coffee pot, my Xbox, my dishwasher and my microwave in the truck?". But I must say, I do hate when the A/C dies in August...

I drove an old dbl stick on my Uncles farm, no power steering. I couldn't turn and shift, heck at the time I could barely turn... or push the clutch all the way in. Any one watching would have laughed their butt's off. 15, barely 5 ft and under 100lbs... pitching hay was easier...lol

Anyone else have questions about dogs riding in trucks? Man, that's a cool video. The guy isn't as smooth on the shifting as Mr David, but he has his dog riding shotgun, got his shades on, sky piece, and head held high and wheeling around old iron. Sounds like a good day to me.

Brings back memories, I started driving in mid 60's, first diesel/semi I drove was a GMC conventional with a 238 Detroit and 4x4 trans. I watched to see if he would reach through the steering wheel to change the main trans. That's the way I was taught. Pulled a 3 axle flat bed hauling cement and cinder blocks. Would shift 4 times before you got across an intersection when taking off from a dead stop. Also drove lot of Macks with 3x4 and 5x4. Then there was the B model Mack that had chain drive that was kept for a spare truck. Only had to drive it for a couple days, now that was an old truck.

the lack of steering wheel play is astonishing.

Bet there are people that watch that video and cringe. "Looks like too much work!" Parked on the fuel island because it's 'too much work' to walk from the parking lot. Leave their piss bottles on the fuel island because it's 'too much work' to pour it out in the grass. When you're 700 lbs with purple legs and it takes you 30 minutes to wiggle out of your truck and walk to the front door of the truckstop, that's when I think it's too much work.
