My first few trucks had no power steering, no A/C, some had no Jakes. Done the twin stick deal, kinda miss it. Newest truck I ever drove was a
2011 Freightliner, DD 500hp, 10 spd, ( Ryder truck ) it was for sissies in my opinion. When I'm driving I want to be driving, not feel like I'm on vacation, but that's just me. I enjoy the whine of the transmission, the tone exiting the exhaust. Guess I just like old things or I'm an idiot. Everybody has an opinion. Be safe out there.

I drove a rental Ryder 2011 Pornstar one time that couldn't pull a greasy string out of a hog's ###. It had to be downshifted going up some tall hills with an empty trailer.

I learned how to drive in a 1964 Peterbilt 281 with 4x4 and 262 Cummins. My father taught me how to shift getting both boxes in neutral. Take the main out and then quickly the brownie. Grab the gear in the main, and get the right rpms for under in the brownie. I never crammed the main in, and I never pulled over to get it in gear.

I was looking to buy a '95 W900l, with a c model Cat and 6x4. Because I was rusty, I did have to pull over to get the main in gear.

As far as OP saying something about being able to spot newbies..., I have had my license close to 34 years myself, over 15 years experience , and I guess over a million miles. If I am in the mood, I will split every gear even when empty. I enjoy shifting. I would prefer a manual transmission in my car too. To each his own

    OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this.

It really wasn't that hard. The same principle applies shifting a 10 speed or 13 speed. Make your timing right, and everything falls into gear.

The reason he makes it look easy is because he is not intimidated by 2 sticks. He is used to it.
