I have a2005 mxs I'm wanting to swap out for a 3406e . I was told it would be about 50 thousand to do this with the motor being rebuilt arms put in. The shop said it was a lot of work. Judy wanting some input from anyone that has done something similar and if it really is that expensive.

the swap isnt that much work because its a cat for a cat. Harness you can get mawk or someone to rework your current one which is like $1000. I cant comment on rebuild since that has its variables. depending on if your truck is like a 379 its really easy swap to do.

Is this a real question, if so why are you wanting to do this?

Also, 50 grand is about 30 grand to much to rebuild this and do a swap.

    Oxbow and SAR Thank this.

Yeah my truck is a 379 exh. I know the rebuild by itself is about 28 thousand with platinum warranty but they are wanting about 50 to do it all

Yes it's a real question. I'm wanting to change for a couple reasons. First I've hated this twin turbo motor since I bought it 3 years ago. Number two the mpg sucks and the biggest reason is I want to stay away from elogs. I've ran an elog for a year and I'm done doing it.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Actually, no it's not. A platinum overhaul kit is around 10-12k at your local Cat house.
Depending on what all your engine actually needs (machine work, block work, turbo, ecm program etc etc.....) 28k is high.

An E model, is a direct swap with a few wiring modifications with appropriate adapter plugs. Whoever told you 50k sucks.

wore out, Oxbow, SAR and 1 other person Thank this.

ive done a isx to a detroit in a 379, my words of advice get it done from someone who knows what they are doing and replace minor stuff that looks like it needs to be replaced when the motor is out (hoses and stuff)

Oxbow, SAR and snowman_w900 Thank this.

You realize that unless your truck came factory with an ELD exempt engine (pre 2000 EPA emissions standards) it doesn't matter what engine you put in that truck, you're not gonna be exempt from ELD.

Rideandrepair, Oxbow and SAR Thank this.

I'm saying to have the shop do the platinum overhaul with turbo and everything from oil cooler to alternator and everything they quoted me between 27 to 28 thousand with them doing it so I had the warranty.

    Oxbow Thanks this.
