I'll make the question very clear then. Find me a case where the driver was jailed due to an illegal logbook after being found not at fault in the accident at hand.

I'm not overly concerned over lawsuits for 2 reasons.

    1. I'm better off financially than the majority of the US so odds are the person who trys to commit suicide by truck will not be able to take me to court and if they do they will be quickly defeated or I'll just beat them in a battle of attrition where they will run out of money before I do.

2.your counter argument is but ambulance chasers work for free!!!! Yes they do, but they only take slam dunk cases. They want the big payout. Anyone worth their salt won't waste their time with a weak case. If they have already proven me not guilty of any crime or fault in the accident at hand they won't touch it.

I want to remember something about getting into the mud to wrestle with a pig. After a while you see the pig is enjoying it. Its hard to reason with a knowitall about everything, and I just don't have the energy any longer.

I'm barely capable of filling out 1 log book :confused2: No way it'd be worth me trying to do 2 logs!

To the OP, one thing that I have learned through the years is that if you really feel that you need 2 logs to be successful in this industry then you are doing something wrong. Either with the wrong company or making poor decisions on a day to day basis. I mean this with no disrespect....... If it's illegal don't do it.

I had a level 1 the other day, I passed. She said they pulled me in becuase i was not under a load and would not delay me that long. That was considerate but i still had to make my pick up before they closed.

My log was legit in that the hours a ran were not over. But she never looked at the miles I had driven within the hours I logged. Had she done that I would have been likely out of service.

It was a wake up call for me. I have been being more careful but still am not running totally legal. Moral to the story is watch yourself, all it takes is one intelligent DOT officer to ruin your day.

that is, of course, you are NOT on a 'company per diem' program. Then again, some companies, from what I've heard, you might want to get 6 months of print outs(on elogs) if their per diem program is 'wacky'

Even if you ARE on a company's per diem program, you STILL need to keep track of your days out and calculate what your deduction would have been, and compare it to what you were payed without taxes being deducted as a "reimbursement" for the per diem. If they paid you more pre-tax than what you were otherwise eligible for, you still owe the taxes on that money. If they shorted your pre-tax per diem pay, you may still deduct the difference.

Per diem pay just makes more work for you come tax time, saves the company money (employment taxes and benefits paid on a lower base wage), and screws the driver (social security, disability, unemployment, ect... all calculated on the artificially lower "base" rate, not including the per diem reimbursement). Personally, I'd never work for a place that told me I HAD to take it.

I understand what you're saying. I'm not saying I think I need two, I don't always know how to have current logs on me.
    And @Long FLD, yes, I was just trying to squeak in a quick van run. I was running flatbed the rest of the week. There's other reasons involved for wanting to push harder;
Fridays are always tough days to get things done, and if there is a mistake I'd have to sit all weekend.
I need customs papers to cross. Can't be done after hours.
Office people like to go home at 5 or 6.(Yes they will stay late as needed.)
Once I start my 11/14 in the states the clocks ticking to get back over the border, where I can gain 2 or 4 hours of drive time back.
So the faster I deliver, and reload, the faster paperworks done and I can cross back to go home.

I hit snow in buffalo last night which killed an hour. My paper day started at 0945, so even though at 2345 I was back across the border and had full tanks again, and had the option of legally running another 4 hours, I was tired and the roads were bad, so I slept at the J.

I'm just trying to get the job done, and make my life easier.

If I'd have known this many people would've been pissed off, I'da kept my pie hole shut. I'm sorry I brought this up on here.
