Every day driver. I knock on my head twice and say a prayer asking God to protect those on the road around me.

It's skill and work ethics that are the basis to a professional. No where do you ever find one of these drivers that claim to know it all. The most important teacher I had (before schools were up and running) were a group of guys that took pride in themselves in the way they taught you. They didn't want any bonehead moves coming from a driver they just trained. It was their image that was the issue and you can bet they were critiqued by other drivers with the same or better record. Local drivers out of Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles that had 30 to 35 years of accident free safe driving. And if you even put a scratch on the truck every driver knew. That kind of training I don't think you'll ever get in a school. I would think you could get the same from a good O/O.

These are the guys with the impeccable driving records, (As those companies don't hire anyone with less than a stellar MVR) mabe if they got a few tickets they would slow down.

Lookie here..... school and all aside there's only one person who dictates what kind of driver you are..... YOU!!!!

See, there's more to being a driver than getting your load delivered. The big deal is RESPONSIBILITY.

You take responsibility for the condition of your rig, it's load and it's condition.

You take responsibility for your actions on the road because you are responsible for all those around you.

And you're responsible when you screw up.

My wife and I went through a supposed "CDL Mill" but we dont drive like that. Most of the time when we see dumbazzes that drive like that, its O/O's or other "unmarked" trucks. It aint always the newbs that drive like idiots.

I'm not too sure about that. The last time I talked with one of those drivers when he delivered a package to my house he told me they promote within and take the drivers that were on the delivery trucks. Besides that drivers that drive that way don't keep stellar records and would be fired.

Out west years ago UPS was one of the best jobs around and they paid the best. They didn't force a driver to drive an average but they did force a driver to take scheduled breaks. I knew the UPS driver Wanye from Tonopah Nev to Vegas and back and he was so dependable I would pull over on top of the Goldfield grade and he'd come by the same time every night and wake me to get me going. I'd get about a 20 minute nap on the wheel and then was ready to go.
