For the most part these rigs are about the same in ratio and specs. They both have cat engines, same general options except that the newer one has a few extra useless gauges, and both have APUs. But what to me seems to be an easy decision is made a bit harder by the fact many companies lock out truck ages to 8 years max. So here it is

One is a 2003 with 590k miles, this truck has new tires on all tires, has had 1 owner, and was used in a regional run. It has a C16 cat with 600 HP. It is priced at a bit over 30k

The other is a 2005 with over a million miles, has had a rebuild, is a C15 cat with 550 HP was used in a bedbugging (Mayflower) and has had 3 owners. It is priced at 56k.

I am heavily leaning toward the 2003 since it has less miles, fewer owners, and a smaller payment but wanted opinions since getting a 2003 will put me at a disadvantage in terms of a company to lease on to.

Neither rig is being 'leased' through a company, it would be financing through a third party. How much bigger of a risk would I take going 2 years older with a 25k price difference?

What kind of trucks are they? That would also be a deciding factor for me.

Two years older is nothing I'd go with the 03 hands down. What make and models are they?

What are you going to haul? Flats? box? OD/OS? I'd personally lean towards the 03 of these two trucks. Outside that, I'd find a nice 12.7L detroit to run.

For those prices they better be spotless Petes. Nothing else is close to carrying that kind of dollar PLUS even if Pete......a million miles? For how much?

On that rebuild? Need to see Cat receipt ( original ) listing dates, mileage, parts and work performed all broke out clearly and not a copy either.

My 2 cents from being in the market.....

I would go with the 03 but I would only want to pay about half of what they want for it...

2003 hands down. The 2005 is probably an ACERT which have their own issues. One owner should mean he's giving you all the maint. records too. Find a decent carrier and they aren't going to care about age of the truck, merely the condition and maybe do a more thorough inspection.

Some pretty bold replys for trucks that were described by motor only.

    Packaging does make a diifference.
