No such thing as a bridge C16 that's the one I'd buy. Price doesn't sound bad to me. Hoods will get good fuel mileage if maintained and driven right. CAT's get a bad rap which I think comes more from drivers who've never had that kind of power on tap and don't know how to control their right foot. As with any used truck needs to be thoroughly checked. The miles are really low which is odd but not everyone turns big miles yearly for peanuts per mile.

My o/o with a similar setup got 5.5 mpg with a 3406e factory 600/18 speed in a condo classic. I did his IFTA so that is a real number. He ran the northeast to Chicago and rarely on the toll roads. He also came out of a 11 liter series 60, so he was always on the pedal. If he tried he could have easily been in the 6's.
Last year I almost bought a Coronado with a 625 cat for $42,000 with 500k on it. Deals are out there if you're in the right place at the right time, or you know someone. Good luck IROC. I average 6.6 with my "hood" and drive the speed limit.

Sorry you misunderstood what I meant by packaging. The drive train is what makes the money but all that was posted was two trucks with two different engines. Never mentioned chrome.

I'd go with the '03 if it checks out OK.

If you are worried about finding a carrier that will take the 03 I'm sure you have one or two in mind call around an ask them. It seems most are taking on older trucks if they are in good shape. Now you do need to keep in mind the cost of rebuilding a Cat, if you are still making payments on the old girl an in frame could put you out of business. I would check the ECM miles, make sure it is the original ECM. See what the life time fuel mileage is just to give you an idea. For peace of mind I would spend the money to have it put on a dyno see what the HP is to the rear wheels what the temps are it is running at, what the blow by is. Now I know you said " I know what I'm doing " But take the time to figure out what that truck is going to cost you per mile to operate. What is the Carrier going to pay you per mile. And how much is going to be profit per mile. With all that be said if it checks out I would go with the 03.

Not much time to read all the replies, but the engine regardless the make of truck is what will make or break you. If it were me, I would stay far away from anything with a Cat. Haven't seen one yet that gets half ### decent fuel mileage and are on the high side of the money bracket when it comes to parts. As far as age, not many will take anything over 8-10 years old except Landstar or a couple others unless you find a small fleet company to lease on to thats could care less as long as it runs and its legal for the most part. The only other option is fully independent.
