I don't get it... a company can put stuff on your Dac anytime they want. IE a Driver backed into my truck truck while I was in the sleeper. ( barley marked my truck) but I told them and gave them all his information. They put it on my Dac when I quit months after it happened. the company reference says OV backed in to me but the dac says backing incident. If I did it again I would of just gave them there truck back and said see ya! The company I work for now treats drivers much better. I don't get why companies even look at the DAC because it can be full of misrepresentations. mega companies just need the keys back.
Once drivers start suing these trucking companies for erroneous and slanderous information I am sure it would slow the roll of the bs being put into those reports. http://www.truthabouttrucking.com/dacreport/
.....i agree to a certain point , there are still men of integrity in this field but let's face it ,we know by now we can't really count on it or even expect it , i always try to leave on a good note , what good is it to me to leave on a bad note ? even if we have to fake it ,there are many good answers to give ,which will serve us better than burnt bridges Examples: i need a change , this is not my cup of tea, job offer for more $ , too many responsabilitys at home .....a weeks notice is good enough to say you were curtious and gave notice and remember to blow alot of smoke up the bosses butt when you leave , say things like " it's been good working with you guys" ....this way you put yourself on higher ground .....these days we have the tools to check out a companies track record , before jumping into another bottom of the barrel outfit & end up wasting more time & job history , this way we can hopefully starve the bad companies out of our industry , we already know without drivers they don't have a job
I gave the two week notice, they're going to work me for another week and a half. My FM seems like a decent guy so hopefully he sticks to his word..
Been retired since November of 2011. So not too long. Pattyj , you and I agree on most things. But , maybe not here. I'm just of the notion that I try and always do what's right even when it may seem that the one being just as big an ### as the one doing me wrong. 2 wrongs don't make a right. And like I said I'll never have to explain why I did something to just get back at an employer. I was however , lucky and fortunate to never have to cross that bridge. Got a great job early on and tried my level best to keep it. Now I'm living the easy life. Was it worth it......you bet. We all try to give folks the best advice we can give each other. Yours is just different than mine. No one is right or wrong here.
That's exactly what my company does. No hard feelings, they just do not want a driver that does not want them. Too much to risk.
I would casually get that in writing , that makes thing alot easier and getting it in writing will a be a confirmation ,so they can never hold it against the driver on a Dac report or anything else ...if that's their policy it sure makes thing easier ,but if by chance they are lying about it ,they will try to use again it against you
That would be my expectation in this industry. My $.02...I'd put in a two week notice after telling your new employer that you might be available earlier if you're released by your current employer when you give notice. That way you aren't getting hosed by being without work two weeks. In doing so, you also demonstrate to your new employer that you're a stand-up person and want to do the right thing by giving sufficient notice. Something for people to keep in mind...in non-trucking jobs...it's generally expected that you'll give two weeks notice when you decide to move on. An employer in that boat (i.e. Like the OP is talking about) is not going to understand your logic if you just say "I'll quit my trucking job tomorrow and start with your company the following day." They'll think..."**** this guy/gal...he'll do the same thing when he/she gets tired of working for us."
I told the new employer that I would offer a two week notice to the old one, but I wasn't sure if they would want to put me on the road for two weeks knowing that A: I have another job waiting and B: It probably takes more effort than it's worth to get me back to a terminal on time, they could just send the next driver out in my truck and not have to worry about keeping me close to base or potentially passing on good loads for a load that goes in the right direction, that sort of thing. I'm a pro, bro.
