They use water jets to cut the slabs for countertops. They would buff out the corners with water too for a smooth look.....

Yes and pardon me for adding this one but, that is a reminder why if you are a dock worker or related you should make sure you are paying the extra on that term life and that your co has Long term disability to help with the workmans comp. Better safe than sorry.

I have hauled this stuff before with my flatbed, what actually happened? Was this in a van or on a flat? And it paid pretty good.

I'm thinking something like this happened in the trailer.....

When you work as a P&D driver, you pick up all kinds of odd freight...and a lot of times you have to have the right equipment to handle the job. I never really carried around straps...just had my pallet jack, chock, block of wood (many uses with this) and bungie straps. Part of the job is figuring out ways to consolidate space and making sure you secure your load. Whenever I picked up slabs, I would ask the forklift driver to rearrange my load to make sure I had other tall freight around it to protect it from tipping over...or fill any space with pallets, dunnage, or air bags. Dockworkers have all sorts of attachments that they can put on the forklift to handle all kinds of different freight...from drum clamps, extended forks, chains, etc., and I doubt they had anything to unload slabs the proper way. It's a shame that someone had to lose their life because of this...but I'm hoping other LTL's will learn from this mistake.

I would never haul that stuff in a van. You need real securement, dry vans, normal dry vans lack that. That was a monumental mistake if this was the case.

The article was vague - @upnorthwpg , do you know if that location was an LTL terminal or a regular warehouse? I've picked up at several XPO warehouses that were totally unrelated to the LTL Freight trucking company formerly known as Con-Way.
