It depends on which fleet you run for and where your Home terminal is. “I” am allowed to as part of the Dedicated fleet but I can’t speak for others or other situations. I choose NOT to take it home as I live only 70 miles from Corporate HQ and my personal car is parked there. I CAN say I have never been screwed over asking for home time and that is a might good feeling.

Lady Kay, dwells40 and lual Thank this.

I don’t get to Payette all that often, but last time I was there I fell on the ice in that parking lot, the only time I EVER have! I don’t need chains usually- I just throw the interlocks on and tippy toe back to the dry pavement, but it IS a frequently harrowing experience there!

Hang with it and have realistic expectations and you will get far in my humble opinion.

Well as to that, we are running about 85-95 percent attrition as I believe it is called. Just about on par with the rest of the industry.
And if I may interject a bit of personal observation there are a LOT of people who will feed you BS and get you thinking the grass is greener when you are new, making for a lot of “fluidity” right at the six month mark. Even one of our old trainers who left got back on a private forum and started running down May and claiming he had it so much better.

BS- If you have it THAT good you are too busy to post tik toks and feed the negativity on the forums.

Net result? A driver who was fed a lot of disinformation quit before six months was up all due to him not understanding how things actually worked and believing a troll who used to be a driver trainer.

No problem, I just want to try to counter the negativity that is so prevalent out here. When you are new you don’t see things the way you will after you get some perspective.

And thank you for the kind words- too few of those out there it seems. As I said elsewhere there is a lot of disinformation and trolls who have nothing better to do than post on the ‘Net. I love CDLLife but some days the hate just drips off the page and it is discouraging to see, let alone participate in. This place is a LOT better, seems like most actually want to HELP new drivers rather than run them and the starting companies they need to work at down.

You can’t have it both ways- you need experience to get the higher paying jobs and to get that you need to just grit it out and do the miles as best you can while staying safe and keeping your CDL shiny.
Thanks friend. I come here because the negativity to helpfulness quotient is much higher then on CDLLife, and if any of what I can contribute helps someone else that is all for the better.

We can’t make trucking a better community with a better image by just running each other down in private then flinging a poop sack and a urine bottle out at the rest area/truck stop for John Q. Public and the kids to see. So I try to find places where negativity ISN’T the norm and provide what little encouragement I may.

I work for May. I would love to stay but working 7 days a week I make around 500 a week. Some conflict with DM conflicting orders. Parking she finds by googling truck stop with city name. Last one she wanted me to get a reserved spot in Troutdale 20 hours after I 84 closed. Things that won't work. I don't know how to make her happy on that one. So I am getting short live loads. Or I get a good preplan long ways away then get a short live load where I have to wait 20 hours total before I can grab are preloaded and take it 700 miles. Or get told to drop long trip to go do something like shuttle refers that drivers had not filled before drop. Yeah that happened. I can't live on 492 to 586 a week. I don't take any time off except for 34 reset. I am always long ways from home when I do those. DM is only person I have not been able to get along with. If I can't get to 800 a week I got to go look elsewhere. I do not want to. I feel a debt to them. I went to worst school there is. If not for Tom I would not be able to back ####.Gail is wonderful. Everyone is. I can even handle DM. I can't do the pay I am getting for 7 days a week only break 34 resets far from home. What did you make. I am 2 weeks past 45 day review . She won't hesitate to give me an appointment 10 hours after a ten hour rest. With storm it will be 4 days of daily 3 days of mileage. Only various clock restraints. Or just plain sitting still check is gonna be smallest ever.
