Hi,
I am new here and a recent CDL graduate searching for a good starting company. My ultimate goal is to work locally, in P&D or LTL, with a Monday-Friday schedule and being home every night, but I know I have a way to go to get there.
I'm currently trying to decide which path to take. I understand that no one can give me the perfect answer since everyone’s opinions and situations are different, but I’m looking for any advice, especially from those who were in a similar situation. What did you do, or what would you do in my situation?
I have the potential option to work for TWT - Tidewater Transit out of Wilmington, NC. The pay is 25% per load, with the possibility of being out for a week each month, hauling caustics, acids, and methanol. I've heard it involves hard work, long hours, and some danger.
My other option is with Swift. They offer 55 cpm, regional East Coast routes, out 10-14 days, covering roughly 2,000 miles a week, with dry van no-touch freight.
If anyone has any insight or advice for my situation, I’d be grateful. Thank you!

Tidewater unless you dont pay attention to what you are doing.
RandyLahey and Numb Thank this. -
Tidewater is what I'd choose. Couple years later, maybe haul cyro and pay will jump to well over $100G per year. Cyro companies want 1 and usually 2 yrs. tanker experience.
Zonno and RandyLahey Thank this. -
Might get more responses in the "Questions From New Drivers" thread.

Is there a Old Dominion Freight Line terminal near you? This company hires new cdl school grads.

Eagle transport would offer better options for your desired schedule and home time.
Eagle does tankers, hires from school, and will train you.
And it’s possible to make 6 figures your first year, or real close to it.
Gas, smooth bore chemical, and dry bulk are all possible with Eagle.
Get started in one mode, then cross train into the others.
That’s what i did, and i never want for work even when other things are slow i always get called to run.
I get calls from competitors monthly wanting me to jump ship.
Having that experience makes you one of the most highly desirable drivers there is.
Tankers ain’t no joke, and it’s not for the complacent or lazy minded.
Just be smooth and easy, gentle with the wheel, and keep your business tight.
I wouldn’t want to do anything else in trucking but tankers.
Better money, better schedule, almost never waiting to unload or load, and always work to do.Lav-25, Zonno, Concorde and 1 other person Thank this. -
